Hey, so what do i do? my gas guage acts like a Speedometer. when i accelerate i have more gas than when i brake. also, when i'm on the high way, i have about a quarter tank more than when im in the city. is this just because the gas moves around the tank when i accelerate and brake. i guess my question is, is this normal for these cars or not? i can live with it, its not a big deal, i just fill up when i have a quarter tank left. but i was just wondering about this.

Mine does that too. I've recently changed out my gauges and it does it a little more now than it did before, but still I think it's normal.
It has to do with the gas sloshing around in the tank when you drive. it's normal on these cars. newer cars have a sort of buffer built in that prevents that from happening.
ok, i was just wondering if it did that on everyones cars, or if there was somethin wrong with mine. so then all of my guages are fine, thanks.

mine goes up when goin down hills and down when goin up hills i never know exactly how much gas i have
yea, thats why im going to find out how many miles i can get on a tank of gas. and i also fill up when i have 1/4 tank of gas left.

Dont mean to hijack this thread but my temp guage needle shakes violently when I crank the starter. Whats up with that.
i don't think that is a big deal. all the guages move around when you start the car. i think they are resetting or something, when you start, they have no read. im not sure, but it makes sense to me.

I dunno but the temp gauge pegs the side of the gauge housing and the skinny tip of the needle was broken off when I got it I assume from it pegging when started

check the wire going to the temp sensor...sounds like something is grounding it out and that is what makes it jump all around. My temp gauge did the same thing one time, turned out it came disconnected and was touching metal under the hood. I hooked it back up and it's been fine ever since.Originally Posted by BigBadJohn
