Re: spoiler

There are 2 ways to line up the 3 spoilers pieces that I know of.

1. You can remove the rear deck area and reglue it on in the correct position. This was never a science from the factory.

2. I did this part just last week on my neighbors 89. We loosened the 3 bolts that hold the side spoiler pieces on and moved them back until they lined up with the hatch spoiler. The hatch spoiler does not have any play in the mounting holes so it is not adjustable. The entire rear hatch painted section was out of alignment so short of removing it and regluing it, we found the play in the side spoilers. It's almost a perfect fit now. Adjusting the entire glass hatch is not an option as his was perfectly aligned. The glued on painted area with the hatch spoiler was completely out of wack and we didn't want to mess with the glue process.

Re: spoiler

I have heard that the actual hatch hinges play a part in this problem. I think they get loose so they let the hatch slide back. The fix (only read about, never tried it) is to loosen the hatch bolts holding the hatch to the car, then have someone hold the hatch up and push it toward the front of the car while you tighten the bolts back up.

I think its worth a shot seeing how it is much easier than the other fixes

Re: spoiler

the hatch on mine is aligned, the only problem im having is that the hatch spoiler sits too high on the right side. all of the hatch bolts are on and tight, so im assuming i need to readjust the side poiler somehow. i can see the bolts holding them in place, but i cant find a way to loosen them from the inside

Re: spoiler

Two of the speed nuts are accessible by removing the rear plastics and exposing the inside of the rear 1/4s. The 3rd speed nut (on top) is harder to get at. You will need to rmove the taillight assembly. There is a hole in the body that allows access to that nut.

If the one side sits higher than the other, hae you checked the hatch bumper rests and adjusted up or down?

Re: spoiler

The rubber stops on the bottom of the hatch. They are similar to the hood stops. The rear hatch rests on these and they touch the body just above the tailights in the corner of the rear hatch opening. You'll see the marks left by them near the corner seam. Just turn the side that sits high until the hatch rests level.

This is the problem with mine - and why i quoted this. How hard is it to move the hatch back into place? This isn't a concern involving the spoiler, has i have the base spoiler on mine so no alignment problems there. But the hatch alignment is off enough that a heavy rain can leak through sometimes.

Re: spoiler

i was playing with mine the other day and couldnt believe how easy it was.all i did was lift the glass put a broom handle to hold it up and loosened the four 13mm nuts.had a friend push it in while i tightened it.there is a plate in there that only gives you so much adjustment.if you take your window out and drill the holes bigger you will have all the adjustment needed.
