how to remove the shifter knob

Car: 1987 Iroc Z
Engine: was 305, now a 350 crate
how to remove the shifter ****
So i was trying to take out my shifter plate cause it has a couple cracked corners and put a new plate in but i cant figure out how to remove the shifter. its an automatic if that helps and the shift button is on the top. If any1 knows please help!!

look on the front of it there is a slit get a flat head screwdriver (a small one) and stick it in to full out a u clip that just slides in and out then pull up on the ****. it comes right off.

hey thanks man, i am using a dumb Haynes Repaair manual and its a pile so i couldnt figure it out. And sence we r on the console do you have any idea how and how much it would cost to put a 4th gen console in? i never seen that done till this site.

If this is the round 8 ball shifter with the button. The button needs to be pried off. Then, there's a small horseshoe like retaining clip that has to be removed. Remove it, then lift the **** up and out.
