GTA Seats ... How do you get the plastic off?
I am thinking of tackling the project of re-covering my GTA-style seats this afternoon if I don't make it to the track.
I got my seat covers from Hawk's ... Hampton Vinyl.
Does anybody know how to remove the plastic pieces from the seats to re-cover them? I am talking about the seat back and back of the headrest.
Thanks!

Anybody? I called Princess "The Cover Girl" at birdsandbowties.com, Hawk's and Young's F-Body, and nobody knew the answer to this. I need to get these seats done ASAP and I don't want to break anything.

C'mon guys ... surely somebody knows the answer to this. My car is going in a show next weekend and I would love to have my new seat covers on.

I ended up taking them to an auto upholstery shop. Even the pro had trouble with them. But they look great now. Good luck!

Do you have an answer for us then? Are they stitched onto the fabric?

Ask my auto trim guy. Eddie Moore at Moore's Auto Trim. His number is (828) 328-1496. Tell him I had the red 92 T/A convertible there last August. I wish I could answer that for you, but I can't.

I was just curious.... but not curious enough to call him up. I thought you might've seen them do it.

Re: GTA Seats ... How do you get the plastic off?
A little late, but the covers are held on by screws.Top(inside the boot) & very bottom for the seatback.Cargo net, visible when seatback is removed(2 on top,2 on bttm).Head rest, remove both rubber covers from the adjuster *****, remove screws from the adjuster wheels(white). Also remove the headrest pad(i think it just pulls off). Then remove the 2-3 screws behind it.To remove the whole headrest, insert a flat piece of metal down the bar(cant remember if its on the front or back, but there is a release clip on the seat frame).Once you push in the metal piece, you can pull the headrest out.You will need to pull the boot down from under the headrest for this.
As for the seat covers. They are held on by hog rings & velcro in some areas(seat cushion for one). You will have to seperate the seatback frame from the lower seat frame to remove the covers/air hoses from the foam.
The Rr fold down has either a zipper or J-clips that snap together at the bottom. The Rr seat cushions are mostly glued in place with some hog rings along the bottom.
Its been about ten years since i last replaced these. So some details may be cloudy, but this is the majority of the work involved.
Have fun
