Need help with steering wheel!!!

My '87 GTA's steering wheel is VERY loose. It's not just the wheel itself, but it feels like the whole column. Any insight as to where there are tensioning screws to make the box tighter? I really appreciate the help guys

Re: Need help with steering wheel!!!

Same thing happened to my 88 GTA. The four inverse torx bolts were completely out in mine. My steering wheel was very loose and I could move it side to side, up and down, etc.. It felt like it was just attached by the steering shaft only and in fact it was. The information in the link above is very accurate and correct. There are special tools needed or you can send it out to get rebuilt. I recommend sending it to Jim at Birds and BowTies. I sent mine out to him and he did a great job and was really quick in getting it back to me. He was cool because he didn't mind helping me over the phone and awnsering all my questions. Removing the column was pretty straight forward and easy. Any questions you can e-mail me at heavy259@comcast.net. I just got finished doing it to my GTA.

Re: Need help with steering wheel!!!

I had the same problem with my RS. If you look outside your local grocery store you will probably find a free publication (Around here they use names like "Pennysaver" or "Greensheet" or "Free ads") Its just a free publication that you can grab on your way out the door... Anyways they usually have some ads in there for steering column repair. The guy came to my work and fixed it for 75.oo. Way, cool!! You could try that... There are special tools and a lot of small parts needed. Two things I wont take apart; Automatic transmissions and steering columns....
Hope that helps...
