hatch pull down/poper

I want to install the hatch pull down unit and poper to my 85 camaro, does any one have a picture of the mounting bracket attached to the car, not the one on the power pull down unit, i need to see the frame mount i was told my car was a late 85 build and it may be possible to add this feature.

Re: hatch pull down/poper

So, you have the non-pulldown unit on your car now? As far as I know, the brackets on the car are the same. I switched my 90 rs to non-pulldown, as I was tired of replacing them all of the time. Hate those pulldown units!!LOL

Re: hatch pull down/poper

I would recommend NOT installing the automatic hatch pulldown. My IROC has it and the motor burnt out. Those things are expensive to replace and fix. Mine is now manual and I couldn't be happier.

Also, once it burns out, your hatch won't stay closed until it's fixed. Not worth the hassle IMO.

Re: hatch pull down/poper

I agree with them, it's not worth the trouble or expense. I have two I will send you for your manual setup. One has new guides installed the other never tried to work with it, You may be able to build a good unit....

Re: hatch pull down/poper

If you're considering this in order to add the solenoid release option, you don't need to swap a hatch pull-down unit. There was a solenoid hatch release that GM offered as an option for those early slam latches. I don't find them as common as the hatch release solenoids that were used on the 86-91 pull-down units, but they are out there. I just wanted to let you know.

If you want to swap the pull-down unit from a 86-91 or from a 91-92 you'll need to cut the sheet metal mount for it from a donor car and weld (screw, pop-rivet, etc.) it to your car in place of your existing mount. You'll also need the plastic hatch surround trim panel too.
