Re: 4th gen dash swap
Ok, so after time upon time of pondering, I have a very confusing question to ask... But I need an answer to it. Ok. So being that my car is a 92, most of these cluster wiring diagrams didnt match my wire colors. I finally found one that did. First question... My 4th gen speedometer connector came out of a 2002 Camaro SS, and I noticed that from the wiring diagrams on here, the colors didnt really match up... Is this because 98-2002 is different than 93-97? Also, I know that the 97 cluster is still the ls1 "style" cluster and therefore is easier to use because of the gas gauge and stuff, but my wiring has come to a stop, when I realized that my 4th gen connector had no wire for my fuel sender and stuff... Does this mean that I need to get a 97 cluster connector? Sorry if that was very confusing, that was the best I could explain it.

Wow that turned out very nice! What did you end up doing about the seat brackets?
Re: 4th gen dash swap
i figured i might have just messed up on the headlight switch i might work on this on friday . i was able to get the interior lightin form the cluster im guessin the other appliances has a missing ground. .. so so far ill get the small light in the fog light switch hooked up as awell as the headlight switch lighting.
ill figure out the turn signals later.
hooked up my gauges and fan switches where the hvac controls suppose to go .. this might be temporary until i get the ac unit workin again.

Did all your vents line up perfect like that?

Ok, I have ran into a problem with the gauge cluster wiring. So far almost everything is matching up, however, I have a couploe wires that dont show up as the colors they should. I have a cluster connector out of an 93-97 Firebird, so pretty much all is matching up except for my seat belt lamp connector. On that diagram that shows the 1995 firebird cluster connector, it's saying that the seat belt lamp should be yellow for A12? On my connector, A12 is purple w/ white. What do I do?

Re: 4th gen dash swap
Ok, I got my gauges working. Even my seatbelt light goes off when I click my seatbelt. I'm going to take the ABS inop light out so that stays off. My brake light goes off when ebrake let down. Hmm... Speedo works, oil pressure works, battery works, water temp works, all the factory stuff works. I just dont have gauge lights... I know its because my dimmer isnt hooked up right. But my headlight switch is all hooked up and working. My brights/turns/tails/hazards/running lights and regular headlights all work correctly. My dome light doesnt dim my lights though... I have it to where I roll it all the way up and click it, my interior light comes on, but no dimming as of yet. Can anyone take a pic of how they connected up their dimmer? Possibly just pull it out of one of yalls dash and take a pic of the wires?

tach and speedometer problems
My car is a 91 Z28 with the L98 that I have bored and stroked out to a 383 and kept the TPI on it. Replaced the 700R4 with a T56 and installed a dash from a 97 Z28. Okay my problem is that my speedometer is at 150mph by the time I'm doing 20mph and the tach is at 2500 at idle and 3500+ while cruising. My question is; do I still need the dakota digital box to fix this problem or have I not hooked somthing up like a stray ground. I've searched and read and read some more but yet to find somebody with the same setup as mine, but that is very hard for me to believe. I've used a 97 V-6 cluster from a Camaro and a 95 V-8 cluster from a firebird and had the same out come. Somebody please help me out. Thanks in advance.

Re: tach and speedometer problems
Being that your car is a 91, you shouldn't need the Dakota digital box... Sounds like maybe you have a missing ground somewhere, or maybe a wire shorting to another? I just completed my 2002 dash swap in my 92, and no problums thus far.
----------
P.S. budofbama, i'm really interested in how your interior looks. Get any pics?

right now I'd be ashamed to take pics of it. Still waiting on stage20 to get me a set of A-pillar moldings. For the life of me I can't cut them correctly (destroyed 2 sets already) and he said he's been busy lately. The carpet needs a good vacuuming and detailing. No back seat bottoms and a set of 98 gray firebird seats up front. Not to mention the driver side door panel is off right now after installing my firebird mirrors. In the process of recovering my seats that are going in, finished the two headrest and one of the upper portions of the front this weekend. Yeah you could say I got a few things going on all at once, seats, cluster wiring, door panel, mirror wiring, etc.....
Ckeck out my thread that I started lastnight on my seats. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...-my-seats.html
Here is a thread I started as I was doing the swap when it was still an auto, minus radio, and dash pad. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...installed.html

I used the 97 cluster. I have the 2002 ss ebony seats, seatbelts, center console and dash. Yeah stage20 lives pretty close to me. Seen him a couple times around town. Nice car

But stop using those but connectors. get a soldering iron and heat shrink it will save you problems in the future.

I thought that was a good deal, only thing was theres no column from lookin at your pics that looks like the stock steering colum in is that correct? While I got your attention, Is that a bird or maro console and what year is it? thanks ahead of time for all your help.

Third gen steering column works fine, and the center consoles are the same from camaro to firebird in those years (97-02)

Is there somethings wrong with using a 02 cluster? i belive the dash i have in my basement is either a 00 SS or a 02 SS is the cluster really going to give me that much trouble if im swapping in a 4th gen tank and ls1 motor?

Hey. The swap looks great. I have to say, the 4th gen door panels look great on the bird. Checking to see if you could point me towards how to hook up 4th gen heater controls. Ill be doing a full swap, including drivetrain on my 91 convert, just trying to be ahead of things for once.

Re: 4th gen dash swap
sorry no pictures yet. im stuck workin on the 4th gen hvac.. any one have decent diagrams pics etc?
ill be mating 3rd gen rear portion of the heater box stickin with the 3rd gen blower. and adding a front portion of the 4th gen heater box. like gheto cruiser to enclose the 4th gen evap core
i might ditch 4th gen set up on top of the3rd gen base.. and just use 4th gen parts fiberglassed etc.
what do u guys think is easier?

Bro.. HVAC was probably the easiest part of my swap. Everything works. All vacuum lines work. I can DEFINITELY get you pics of the cables/vacuum lines if you want. I dont know what year HVAC you used but I used one from a 2002 Camaro SS. let me know

And when im in it stairing at the gauges it just feels awesome to me. Those dashes are pretty much basic looking in most newer cars today. That just my
