Questions for those with 4th gen seats

My seats have seen better days and I was reading on here that the 4th gen seats bolt right in place so Im thinking of upgrading to them, I just have a few questions.
1. how do they affect head room? at 6'3" with a long torso I dont have much to spare
2. my 3rd gen seats seem like theyre not quite wide enough on the bottom, maybe theyre just worn out, but it kind of feels like Im sitting on the open end of a box thats not quite wide enough for my butt, if that makes any sense. Everyone says the 4th gen seats are more comfortable, is this problem taken care of? thanks

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

Only information i got for you is, from what i understand. 4th gen seats sit about an inch or so lower, which would be beneficial to you

Should probably wait for someone who actually has 4 gens in their 3rd to reply though

Get the seat bro! That was one of my best mods that i did to the car. The seats do feel comfortable compare to the 3rdgen seats. Im 6'0 and it its perfect dude

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

I agree with Ramair, they do sit lower, I'm 6ft and there is still plenty of room above my head... they are more "sunk in" than 3rd gen seats..

4th gen seats are a vast inprovement over the 3rd gen ones. They also have more adjustments and I am 6ft 2.

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

This may be one of the better threads I have ever read....

My drag\street car has stock 3rd gen seats, which puts my head at a questionable level with roll bar height (and I took off the power seat tracks for a set of manual tracks)... I need to run the seat reclined, which I have gotten used to but it's really not the position you want sit in on a 8 second 162+mph pass...

I do not like "racing seats", so this 4th gen swap I've been reading about might be the ticket....

If need be will the tracks from a 3rd gen seat bolt to a 4th gen, I don't want or need power seats....

Thanks - George

Also take note how tight the 3rd gen seats are to the cage, will the 4th gen be tighter or looser?

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

I'm also curious about if we bolt the third gen sliders to the 4th gen frames. I loved the seats in the '95 Z28 I used to have, and I'm 6'2", but mine's a t-top, so it's more comfort than headroom for me.

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

i got the less desirable 4th gen seats and i still like them a hole hell of a lot more than my original seats. i am 6ft also...plenty of head room. and as far as comfort, my wife and i drove 500mi from new hampshire to pennsylvania and she didnt complain once!

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

regarding the width of the seats, the 4th gen camaro seats feel wider and the 4th gen firebird seats hold you tighter due to more support on the outside of your legs. I like the firebird seats for that reason, but i'm also not a really big guy so you may prefer the Camaro seats.

Mine were from a 99 Trans Am and were really really nice. They would be better than Camaro ones.

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

I think the Trans Am seats are better than Camaro seats (speaking of 4th gen)...

Ok haven't done it but I remember someone that did 4th gen seat on 3rdgen track and if I remember it was some one that had it in a drag camaro and said he liked it cause it was lighter. Look at the attached pic to see the seat in a thirdgen. Also I got to say I'm amazed by how nice the inside of that drag car is.

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

I'd like to know if the tracks are interchangable, I have a 4th gen in my backyard right now (parting it out BTW). It has a power seat and I'd like to put that track in my car because my motor are old and tired. I would like some 4th gen seats but I really like my 3rd gen colors

Thanks.... the 4th gen seats do look smaller.. I'll really need to look at that when the car receives it's next make over... I've been 8.81 @ 162 with the seats sitting like the pic... I'm not a fan but I get the helmet above the roll bar s#t.....

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

Nice drag car! I race autocross and cant say enough nice things about the 4th gen seats, (Especially the T/A seats) The 3rdgen seats I have always had in my cars seem to always be slightly reclined in my cars giving me the gangster lean, lol. Never liked that. The 4thgen seats will sit almost straight up.

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

as far as I know the tracks are the same 3rd gen to 4th gen but the motor assembly is different but if you are using it in a drag racer you would have manual seats anyway so no problems there. also they are lighter not smaller. they are a little wider than the 3rd gen seats.

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

I kept my 3rd gen seat tracks and put them on my 4th gen seats. One of my amps is installed under my drivers seat, because of the added "tilt" feature of the 4th gen tracks, I couldn't use them with the amp under them. So I just used my 3rd gen tracks on the 4th gen seats.

The 4th gen tracks are a little different, you won't be able to use the trim pieces from the 3rd gen tracks on them. I like how it looks better with the trim peices covering the mounting bolts.

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

I bought tan leather seats from a '02 firebird and it is still the best mod yet. I agree with the other posters that they allow you to sit a little lower. I put a lot of miles on the car and these seats are always comfortable.

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

for drag racing with a harness, you will definitely want the 4th gen firebird seats rather than the camaro ones. The camaro seats have an integrated headrest that get in the way of the shoulder harness.

Re: Questions for those with 4th gen seats

A guy on one of the Fiero forums said putting '96 Trans Am seats in his Fiero lost him about an inch of head room, so Fiero seats might be a salvage yard possibility for any of you who might be needing another inch.
