turning back the odometer...
for a while I've had suspicions that my odometer is turning backwards when I'm in reverse. Today I tested it and drove about 2/10ths of a mile in reverse, and it does turn backwards. Has anyone else noticed this? do all of our thirdgens do this?

that because its a 82-90 camaro, and it has a speedo cable, so i can see that happening, birds after 85 have electric speedos and camaro over 90 have them as well. I dont think the electric one sping backwards.

...Just something I noticed that I thought was interesting. You'd think GM would have incorporated something into the odometer to prevent this.

It would be a lot quicker to put it in OD and make the odometer roll over again!

No, thats not normal operation. They should never be able to go in reverse. Usually you can tell if there has been tampering by simply looking at the numbers. 99% of the time when there has been tampering you'll notice that the last number in the row, either to the right or left never lines up with the rest. It'll be close but never dead on.

when I got my camaro the odometer was at 74,000. I dont think that someone would mess with it and set it to 74,000. Maybe it happened long ago...
