freekin plastic crap

Hey Guys,

I have recent began working on my 88 T/A, body is great, engine is great, interior is all to hell. The problem is all this damn plastic - the console is cracked, dash pad is busted, heater/stereo pod is broke!

If it were steel I could weld it, but this I dont know. Is there a solution?
Does anyone sell this stuff or is it just replaced with other old parts?
Any good way to fix it?

I'd probably just look towards getting some used old parts for cheap..check the junk yards in your area you never know what you'll find and it'll be way cheaper than any online stores. second choice is always ebay to get a good deal.

Yeah, Im find that out. Got the heater pod already, maybe!

Now that I have calmed down, I think I can fix it. The "skin" is in good shape, but the plastic its molded to is cracked / showing age.

I have a question though, anything you guys know of the repair the cracks, epoxy maybe, the problem is that alot of the screw posts " the female part that the screw goes into" are gone. Is that anything like a epoxy that I clould build it back then screw into?

Re: freekin plastic crap

on the screw posts you might make sure its not for the screws that are for looks(some screws in our cars are only for looks to make it more balanced) its easy to figure out if the screw that came out is shorter than the rest its for looks, correct me if i'm wrong guys but i think theres 6 on the center console that are fake, the 4 between the ashtray and the shifter and 2 on the radio pod on oppisite corners could be more but not sure , if you do have missing post drill a hole in the side of the console where the screw comes and fiber glass a little cube on where the post should be the hole where you drilled will help hold it on then drill a hole for screw and use the screw to tap the hole, on the cracks put fiber glass mat on the backside and resin it on turn the console on its side and and fill with fiber glass resin hoped this helped ps you'll have the sand and paint the entire console to make it look even after the fix (experience talking here-lol )

Re: freekin plastic crap

im just gonna replace my whole dash some day. I did the dashpad when i first got the car, but it seems every time i do something to the main dash, i find another crack somewhere. I bet if i poked the dash hard i could put my finger through it lol. What were these dashes made with, clay ? such junky plastic.

For all the plastic peices, i replaced them all from parts from members on board or searching junkyards/ebay "ripoff".

If you purchase off ebay, there is a dude on there called camaro haven or something, i wouldnt buy from this guy, he over prices everything hardcore.
