and don't forget to tell your insurance company, otherwise they wont and don't have to pay if something happens.

Re: Steering wheels!

well on the air bag thing i own this car !!and i dont need the goverment to tell me what i need to have for saftey equipment .number 2.i know of no less than 12 cases where older car air bags have gone off while driving and caused accidents.my ex wifes 94 grand am went off while she was driving down the road . luckily she was nt on a highway and was able to just pull over and stop. i looked at the car and GM decided that a good place for the modual was under the drivers seat . not thinking that water and codensation would short the thing out making the air bag deploy.
i was a tech for chevrolet dealer for 8 years when the air bags first started
back in the early 90s . these things were junk from day one but they wont say that publicly . i had cases where they went off when they were new also .
i got rid of mine in my 91 rs . the other part is learn to ****in drive and not crash, accidents are caused by people not vehicles .hmmm do nascar drivers use air bags ? hell no and the survive crashes at close to 200 miles an hour ?how do they do that ? the fickin car is built right not out of **** metal the cheapest way that it can be made . the auto companies are in buisness to make money air bags are a bandaid to inhance the saftey of thier shitty build cars

Re: Steering wheels!

haha...thats exactly what ive been saying for ever...but to answer the question about the steering wheel. Just follow your hanes manual or whatever one you have and take the airbag out...then like said before just take the blub out its easier then taking the whole harness out...then go buy yourself a Grant steering wheel and adapter and put that in your car. Grant has so many steering wheels to choose from. It will make your interior look that much better and trust me...you will never regret doing it. Like said before tho make sure the local law doesnt require you to have the orgininal equipment in the car. I live in New York and my old mechanic(you wonder why) told me i had to have an air bag to pass inspection. My new mechanic(friend of mine...hmmm) doesnt care if you have an air bag or not. So just keep that in mind.

Re: Steering wheels!

i have a 91 and removed the airbag wheel. carefully disconnect the assembly and remove the components. i did it a long time ago and dont remember exactly how i did it. do a search or look it up in a shop or chiltons manual.
for a while i had a grant gt wheel. i had to trim up the cup that fits behind the wheel, that covers the wheel adapter. i took about a 1/4 off of it. it worked great ever since i did it. get the wheel adapter kit for early camaro models.

just yesterday i replaced the grant wheel with a leather wrapped iroc wheel i got for christmas. i had to also trim the cover behind the wheel so it to would not rub against the steering column. the wheel fits without any other modifications.
