Where on EARTH do I find these pieces?

Once I get my carpet in, my interior will be COMPLETELY done...IF I can find these parts. I've replaced the headliner, the seats are in good condition (except the driver's...), and once it's painted, my project will be VERY near to completion.

The parts? A console lid (IMPOSSIBLE to find), and the plastic piece that covers the headliner where it meets the hatch. I'd rather not have to paint it, since I also have NO idea where to find the paint, but I can't keep the piece I have now. The screw holes have broken out and it's being held up by ONE screw right now. I also need the seatbelt trim pieces. I apparently wasn't careful enough and the tabs popped off when I replaced the headliner. I've gotten tons of compliments on my headliner job (THANKS, HAWKS! ), but I need these last few things to make the interior look good.

Re: Where on EARTH do I find these pieces?

Local junkyard and just hope for the best
thats where I got my console lid, perfect condition except for the non existant button thats supposed to keep it closed but its not like it flys open like my hatch when going over speed bumps lol

and even if you cant find one theres plenty of users on here the probably have one, try to get into contact with RCAR (dont remember the rest of his screen name) i've seen him selling ALOT of interior peices on here in nice shape.

good luck

Re: Where on EARTH do I find these pieces?

I've checked all the yards around here. None of them have anything worth keeping, and none in better shape than the one I've got as far as the console lid. Camaro lids don't work...all the TAs around here are either still on the road, or getting crushed as fast as they come in.

I'll have to check again for the hatch piece, but console lids are a bust...as are steering wheels. But I WILL look up that user. Thanks!

Re: Where on EARTH do I find these pieces?

Craigs List I've found everything I have including my car on it. My last find was a guy in Mass that was parting out 3 iroc's He had a whole black interior advertised and I when I went to look at it I ended up getting a lot more. This guy had everything you could imagine. I handed him$200 and he said I could have anything I wanted. Not only did I get 2 nice black velour seats with matching rears but he gave me a mint dash pad. He had that lid you wanted, I asked him for it and he gave me the whole center piece with the ashtray and vent controls all mint. I got the front vents both sides, power lock switches as I gumed up mine trying to remove the fake screws, I just stood there trying to think of anything else I possilbley needed and remembered my hood shocks were shot and he handed me some brand new ones. I then said all I need now in a service manual and he gave me his Haynes Repair manual as well. My truck was packed and I couldn't have been happier as I drove away. The cars were all T tops and I'm sure he has that piece you need as well. He had possie rear ends Transmissions, hoods, wheels, a red interior as well. Long story short is it's all out there just keep searching CL try different towns if you have to. just type in Z28 and camaro in the search bar to the left. Good luck

Re: Where on EARTH do I find these pieces?

My only question is that I've heard the Camaro console hinges on the back. I have a TA and that hinges on the side. I've never really studied it...is it different?

Yup. No luck there. They seem to have older ones. If they DO have it, it's not in their online catalog...and the link doesn't work. Can you fix that?

Camaro- hinges in the back, and is more square than anything

Firebird- hinges on the passenger side and is "shapes"

Re: Where on EARTH do I find these pieces?

That's what I thought. The 82-84 is pretty much rectangular, but the hinge location is the problem.

When to get the Classic Industried main page, Click on the Firebird Catalog and it will list all the different area's for each car. I have double checked the link and it does work.

Re: Where on EARTH do I find these pieces?

Is this console lid for your 83 TA? I found a 73 - 81 console lid that I think is just like your's . Part no# 10019554 for $49.95 on page 95 of the classic Industries.

Re: Where on EARTH do I find these pieces?

Do you have the original console lid from your '83?
There were THREE different 3rd gen lids, Camaro lids, 82-84 TA lids and 85-92 Firebird Lids.

I assume you have the 82-84 type lid. The hardest to get, I have one, installed in my car, in great shape, but I'm not parting with it until I get a 4th Gen console.

Best of luck.

Re: Where on EARTH do I find these pieces?

Thanks for those. The trim piece is right, although I was hoping to find one I didn't have to dye. The console lid you gave, however, is wrong. The 83s look like this:

Name: IMG_0014.jpg
Views: 26
Size: 109.7 KB

They're a bit more square than what you linked to. You can see mine is warped, but the underside plastic piece is also broken in two, so even if I could re-stretch the vinyl, it wouldn't close.

As far as console lids go, ebay. They're about $40 for brand new ones. I've gotta buy another one myself. Girlfriend snapped it right off the henges. Screws went through the wholes. It's a loss. lol. Check ebay for Trans Am Console Lids and you'll find several. Take your pick.

I could have 3 of the later rounded ones tomorrow, but the 82-84 is harder. I'll keep my ear to the ground for one though.

I cruised eBay last night and I did see that. But alas....the plastic piece on the underside of mine is broken in two, so that wouldn't work, either. It might LOOK better, but it still wouldn't close.

I did find another one though...might have to dye it, but what the heck...

You guys are just awesome. I've been on here 3 days and had more help than I've had in the two months I've had the car!

I need a black one. I'll paint it if it's not right...if not, I've got my eye on one from eBay. It's a guy I've dealt with before, but there's no guarantee. I would love to have a guaranteed piece.

p.s., I'm a girl... Who says only men can restore 'birds? ...hehehe
