question about 3rd gen center consoles

Are center consoles from a manual trans car the same as an auto. trans car. It looks like the only difference is the shifter plate. Am I wrong about this?

I have a Z-28 with a 5 spd I want to change to an auto and wanted to know if there was any difference before i go out to a junkyard and buy one from an auto trans car.

Re: question about 3rd gen center consoles

Thanks for your useless reply. It should be a yes or no answer but instead you want to waste my time telling me to do a search. I already did that that's why I posted my question in the first place. Obviously you don't know the answer!!!

Thanks . After doing some digging I was able to find out. I think mine was original an auto console anyway since the car was an auto converted to stick. the previous owner made his own shifter plate for the stick.

Re: question about 3rd gen center consoles

It's possible it was an auto before, but more likely that the original owner just didnt want to buy a replacement manual shift plate. There is no difference in the consoles except the plate.

Lol at TICE. A better question would be why would you want to convert to an auto?! I wish my RS was a 5M. Auto's are boring! What are you building, a pro street dragster?

to each his own. I like autos for one more consistent at the track. 2) There are too many lights where I live so I can't enjoy driving it. Plus my driveway is aon a hill and it's a PITA to pull in and out when I drive it.

I was laughing about the "do a search" reply, and what the OP responded to that. I'll have to give that a try... respond "do a search". What do you mean, what lights?

I don't have a stick... I wish I did, a 5M 305 sounds like fun.
