Are you kidding me? Seriously?
My expression when a mechanic told me why my AC didn't work. It's a Florida car, and the previous owners bypassed it... why would someone do that? Well they also cut the fuel gauge sending unit and took the TBI unit off and slapped a 650cfm carb on it too... didn't even convert it to run properly with a carb. So how do I fix my AC? Is there a reason why someone would do that?
Lesson learned, don't buy cars on eBay.
Note: if I turn the fan on, it just blows air, not cold, not warm.

well, tell us where/how it was bypassed and we'll be able to help you. as for why? well, Florida has nice weather, and if it was just a toy, why have the a/c work? then again, it seems dumb. also, to bypass it but leave it in the car... well that's crazy

Re: Are you kidding me? Seriously?
you have obviously never lived in Florida. I went to college there. my beater college car had no A/c I figured no biggie since in wisconsin it isn't a big deal. I would never drive a car there without it, not even a toy. You can get extremely sweaty sitting at a stop light. As to why they bypassed it , from the way you described the carb conversion, I think you have your answer.

Re: Are you kidding me? Seriously?
Well I have lived in florida my whole life and I have had 5 cars and none of them have ever had a/c and i drove my car for everyday for 5 years and it came with a/c but it didnt work well then the compressor took a crap so out it came. And hoesntly its not bad as long as your moving but i hate the cold and i would much rather sweat so im just a freak i guess, as for bypassing it and the carb thing. remember florida is not an inspection state so if someone doesnt want to fix it right the just jerry rig it!

Re: Are you kidding me? Seriously?
I live in florida and my A/c has never worked, it was also recently disconnected. I do still have my vent though. I dont mind not having A/C i have t-tops and if it ever gets too hot i have my vent to blow some air on me. Its really not that bad though, here in tampa there is usually a nice breeze anyways. I would be more concerned with what the heck they did with that carb and tb etc..
