Re: 4th gen carpet
Iv heard that you cannot directly swap them, but if you trim the carpet in some places you can get it to work fine. You would have to ask someone that has already done this to know where exactally to cut. If you get some 4th gen carpet cheap enough you could try to figure that out yourself. up to you.

Re: 4th gen carpet
I have one layed in my car now i'm not trimming it until I dye my plastic and reinstall them but so far the only spots that were different were the passenger seat area and the front seat belt mounting locations. the 4th gen carpet is also longer and reaches into the hatch area whereas the 3rd gen one stops at the rear seats. I haven't put the seats in yet but the holes for the seat mounts seem to line up ok. hope that helps. BTW the carpet is from a 93 Camaro and I put it in my 88 Trans Am

You were able to get the trunk piece to fit? I have it but didn't put it in yet didn't look like it'd even be close to fitting. any pictures?

Re: 4th gen carpet
old post but i thought this would be useful, i just swapped a 4th gen carpet into my 88 formula and the only issues were the front seat belt area needed to be notched on the outside under sill plates, the passenger side kick panel needs a little trimmed off side to fit under sill plate and kick panel where they slide together, obviously the rear of the carpet needs to be cut back in which case i just slipped it under the rear hatch carpet and the holes in the carpet for the front female seat belts on the tunnel need to be cut since they dont line up(which is easy to do since the 4th gen holes are there as a guide and can be covered up with floor mats). other than these minor details its a direct swap. looks great too, especially if you have all black interior with a gray carpet and black floor mats, has a nice contrast.
