Ignition Lock Cylinder

Ok problem is my ignition lock cylinder decided to lock up, the key wont turn it anymore and I cant get the car started or more importantly I cant get the key to the 'acc' position to remove the whole lock cylinder so i can replace it. I've asked a few places all ready and i've been told you yank it out with a slide hammer and a screw in attachment and it should pull it right out, i've also been told to drill the cylinder and once I'm deep enough it'll let me turn the cylinder to do it that way. I'd much prefer to yank it with the slide hammer but never used one on an ignition lock. Anyone have any experience doing this? any pprecautions i should take into considerations? Thanks alot
