Idea for mounting

I own a 1989 Camaro rs, and noticed the kid that owned the car before me mounted a cb radio onto the underside of the middle 2 vents through the plastic is 2 holes. Im wanting to buy a gps but was thinking of just rigging something up since theres already 2 holes... I'm wanting like a fold down bracket or something, that from a side view could go from " -- " to " | " but maybe gives a folding method like " -- > / > | " something like that in my idea. Any ideas or something online of doing something like this. Thinking of making it black to match the interior.

regards,
Timinsk

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get yourself a piece of 1/8" flat stock. It should be less than $10 for a 3' piece. Cut what you need, bend it in a vice however you need it to be.

Use a piece of paper to make a template for the existing holes and or take a measurement with your tape and transfer them to your brackets. Primer them and rattle can them with semi-gloss black rustoleum.

Will look very professional if you take your time.

What? Like a hinge? GPS units are usually not exactly flat... also technically I believe they're supposed to be mounted in your window so they can make better contact with the satelite. Hiding it to the extent you're talking about may be a bad deal.

Anyways, I'd figure out which GPS you want first, and then worry about mounting it when you see what dimensions you're dealing with.

Check with crutchfield.com if you can't find it there give them a call. Otherwise building some hindge system shouldn't be to hard. Add some wing nuts to tighten and lossen when you move it. If you have t-tops you shouldn't have a problem with reception there, if you have a hard top I would make sure it will sync with the satelites before mounting it anywhere in the car (may be a good idea even with t-tops).

many units have an extension for an external antenna so you could then mount the antena on the dash and put the unit anywhere, most do not come with the external antenna, but do have the plug.
