Different Heater Controls

Different Heater Controls

Has anyone done or seen a heater control swap from something other than an f-body? I wanted to try a more custom dash that is still recognizable as a 3rd gen but different.

No, I did play with the idea of swapping the radio and HVAC control locations, but that is a minor touch.

That may be a good place to start. The HVAC controls are about the right size for a single DIN stereo. I'll have to measure that.

Deadbird that looks pretty good. Can you get a closer pic?

There was a thread about trying to use digital controls from a cady or buick but no follow up. I would figure you would need something that uses vac to open and close vents. I think the temperature and fan controls would be easier to adapt.

I like the idea of swapping the stereo and the controls. It would give you alot more room to work with. Besides the single DIN stereos always look kinda hokey with the adapter in that big hole.

I would take a better picture for you but, the control isn't currently mounted. In that picture, the controls are just kind of sitting in there. I don't remember what I was taking a picture of but, it wasn't for the controls, sorry.

The controls for both are the same as far as mounting. The faceplates being the only difference. But, that doesn't affect mounting or trim.

As far as electric controls, I would imagine you would need the servos from said car the controls came from. IIRC the Corsica had an electronic selector for the temp which I replaced with a mechanical one from a 4thgen. I wasn't too interested in extra wiring just for an electric hot/cold servo.

The one thing the Corsica controls had, like 4thgen, it's a bi-level selection (foot and defrost). To make the work you ne a bi-directional vacuum servo. I never got that far to seeing if a Corsica or 4thgen servo would work. Even if not hooked up, the 3rdgen vent would just default to defrost anyways.

I was never able to find another radio/hvac trimplate. The trim covers over the control face a little and needs to be opened slightly. I didn't want to ruin my only one so I held off on going much further. I may eventually try to make a new faceplate but, for now, I've got a mountain of other things to concentrate on.

I know that wasn't very useful but, that's just about all the info I have.

I ran a 88 firebird hvac panel in my 83 camaro for a while, worked fine, fit fine, but the camaro bezel hung over the top of the controls a bit, I eventualy switched back to a camaro style since i found a near mint one in a junk yard. IIRC, the early 82-84 maybe? Camaro and Firebird Shared the same HVAC controls.

wow, that does look cool deadbird :] I hate to admit, but I have a corsica, LOL. I HATE it, except for the fact that it makes it possible for me to have the bird as a project... So I SHOULD love it... LOL
anyway, it looks like I'm going to have to swap HVAC controls :] now if I could just find a way to use the corsica cupholder LOL (only thing I like about the car)

How about the Dual zone automatic climate control out of a c5 Corvette, I always wanted to try something like that because electronic-HVAC is on the fritz! I was originally going to use the SSE Bonneville's. As I understand Auto-HVAC uses a programmer(another box) besides the head unit, 2 sensors + temp and vent door motors which I have. In one post I read the electronic-HVAC also has a programmer like control box, is that the pale colored box on the passenger side under the trim piece below map pouch! I know that's a mouthful but I try to be clear and full of detail!Thanks for any help you can provide!
