NEW GAUGES - NEED HELP

Hey Guys,

I've got an '88 Iroc-Z 5-speed w/ TPI that I'm swapping a T56 into. Since the T56 has electronic vehicle speed sensor, I used the opportunity to purchase new gauges. I've been reading that many of these cars require speed input to the ECM but I can't find a definitive answer for my '88.

Does anyone happen to know?

Re: NEW GAUGES - NEED HELP

I have an 87 IROC that I believe is the same as yours although I am using the 700R4 auto tranny . I just did the Autometer conversion with an electric speedometer. In addition to sending the VSS signal to the new speedometer I had to send it to the ECM for speed input and the criuise control, if you have that option. I sent the VSS signal to Pin 8 on plug "A" behind the dash panel as I recall. There should be two brown wires from pin 8, one goes to the ECM and the other goes to the cruise. As I recall the VSS signal needed to be 2000 pulses per mile.

Re: NEW GAUGES - NEED HELP

thanks for that info. i had read that the automatic transmission cars definitely need it but the things they need it for didn't seem to apply to a manual car. i will look at that though. thanks again...
