Re: Auto shift **** removal...?
If you have the round shifter ball you must first pull out the button and there will be a c clip on top of the metal shaft that you have to remove.Once you remove the clip then you will be able to take off the ****

Re: Auto shift **** removal...?
Well since someone already made a topic, I have a 84 firebird auto. My shifter is a T shaped shifter with a button on it. How would I remove one like this?

Sam, look at the front side (towards the front of the car/radio) of your shifter, there will be a clip that looks kind of like a staple in there. Just use a screwdriver and pry that out then the shift **** will just pull straight off. Be careful when taking the clip out, they sometimes like to go flying, don't wanna lose it.

On the front edge of the **** there should be a slot that has a horseshoe type clip inside. You need to pry it out with a thin flat bladed screwdriver.Once its out the **** should come right off

Also, if I buy a new ****, will it most likely come with this clip?!

Re: Auto shift **** removal...?
So if my shift **** comes off and on and spins around and around and doesn't catch because it is not installed properly, is it safe to say that this is probably because I am missing this horseshoe clip.
Also, if I buy a new ****, will it most likely come with this clip?!

Re: Auto shift **** removal...?
I don't really care...new, used...doesn't matter to me. I was looking buying a new **** online but if I can get away with just the clip, I'd rather save $ and do that. Can I get a clip at regular auto parts store, or somewhere else that is most likely local? Any suggestions?

Re: Auto shift **** removal...?
Quick question along the same lines. I have an auto ( sad, I kno...) T-**** with the U-clip, after I remove it how do I attach an After Market ****? They usually screw on n I imigine there r no threads as it uses a clip, and the new **** def doesn't have a slot for a clip lol. Thx in advance.

Re: Auto shift **** removal...?
Pretty much all the mid to late 90s GMs used the C clip for the shift handle. Most of the Handles are interchangeable. Just hit the yards last weekend and got a nice black leather wrapped t handle from a Cavalier z-24. Fits like a glove, also got a pair of outside window sweeps and a rear view mirror with map lights from a 96 Camaro. All for $25.

Re: Auto shift **** removal...?
How'd you get the c-clip off of the shaft? it doesn't look like there is enough room for it to slide off, and I'd prefer to be able to put it back on...

You can also buy a cir-clip (the correct name for it) removal tool, it looks like a pair of plyers, but has little nubs that fit into the holes of the clip, makes things 1000 times easier, and you can get one at any parts store for cheap.
