Hey ive been doing alot of research and i was wondering if anyone has come across some good aftermarket "racing" seats, that will actually fit. Maybe some that require least amont of modifications.

 

you're really not going to find any. The only "aftermarket" seats that will directly fit are 4th gen seats. Everything else, you'll have to mod. But don't be intimidated by that. The easiest way to get that done is to find whatever seat you're interested in and that will fit in the car (ex, not too wide or too tall). Just bolt on the 3rd gen seat tracks to the "new" seats. I currently have seats from a Mitsubishi Starrion in my Trans Am. All I had to do was bolt in my 3rd gen seat tracks. I just measured the distance between the bolts on the floor board of the car and made sure they were the same distance on the seats themselves....

I stand corrected. But from what I've heard, even "direct fit" aftermarket brackets need some sort of modifying.

 

well i really dont mind drilling holes i was just wondering if i anyone knew where i could get some blue and black seat that dont require me making brackets. and maybe around 300 for a pair, i just need them to slide forward and back, and go forward, there for my daily driver

 

How much do stock seats weight?

 

That will vary between power & manual seats....GTA seats....Different seats will weight differently.

Any particular ones your wondering about?

My Arizen seats fit just fine without any modding whatsoever.

no real clue. but they are pretty light weight. just unbolt one and stand on a scale holding it then weigh your self again without holding it and subtract one from the other and there is your diff. there is only like 4 bolts that are very easy to get to for unbolting. i take mine out frequently for carpet cleanings. just never thought to actually weigh em.

The seats i got wouldnt allow me to bolt the original rails to them, the drivers seat mounted fine but i had to cut the back mounts off the passagers seat and attach them to the new seat. Now, i havent been able to find anyone, or get any answers on the forums, but does anyone know if anyone makes a black back racing seat? something i can throw in my 87 'Roc that will work? that has that racing style to it

 

I don't think they make aftermarket rear seats. What I'm going to do (one day) is take the back rest off 2 racing seats and get rid of the 1-piece f-body rear back rest. And I'll put the 2 racing seat back rests on each bucket so it'll look like regular racing seats... I also plan to add a small center console in the back that goes up the exposed part of the back...

 

Does your tunnel have the bracket for the split rears? If so, that would make it easy to put just the backs in.

Cool thought, but for ME, I couldn't drop several hundred dollars, only to use half the seats & put them in the rear. I never use my rear seats, which is also why they are in the storage shed!

 

well, I have the partial bar, I ended up cutting off the ends when I went to a single back piece. I don't plan to use actual racing seats, I don't have that kind of $$ myself. I normally just go to the junkyard and look in different cars and see what can be used (like the current seats I have are from a Conquest). I saw a early 90's Grand Prix Turbo that had individual bucket seats on all four corners. I even thought of adding a flux capacitor!

I havent looked at the rails on the back seats, but is it possible and easy to just swap the rails onto some nice racing seats and slap them back there?

 

Our back seats don't have rails.

The bottom cushions sit in a "bowl" & are only held on, by the 1 stud & nut, under the front edge.

 

yeah, i know they sit in a bowl, but thats what i meant by rail, didnt know if it was called anything different. is it still possible and easy to swap that onto a different seat?

 

if its the rear seat, then no. You could pretty much bolt any seat back there as long as there was a small bracket in the front you can stick the bolt through. The problem with the back seats and why I just want to swap the backs and not entire seats, is that any other seat (specially front seats) would sit extremely high and possibly touch the roof. The floor is higher in the rear and the roof is lower...
