I'm going to end up breaking this thing off, lol

I can't find anything to depress as has been mentioned in several threads, I've look around the **** 11ty million times and can't find anything to depress.....

Any idea on how to remove this thing? I'm trying to remove the bezel and get to my gauges....thanks in advance....

 

I just yanked it out...at least three times when I did my gauges......didn't seem to hurt anything.

 

It works kind of like a Chinese finger trap unless the edges are worn out. The more you try to pull, the more it digs in.
I don't have a flash, but you should be able to see the slot and the angled retainer that holds it in place. You need to depress the metal piece to release the handle from the shaft. You may not be using a large enough screwdriver that will still fit in the slot.

Why are you removing this for the gauges?

 

The **** does NOT come off the metal triangular pin - it comes out of the switch assembly. You have to go up from under the dash - get you bottom dash cover off, and look up in there with a flashlight - you'll see a chromed rivet looking thing that hangs down off the bottom of the front of the switch assembly - push up on it with a NEW pencil (the eraser end) - the rubber on the eraser keeps a good grip on it (a screwdriver slides off since it is dome shaped). While pushing up, gently pull and wiggle the **** - the **** will release from the switch. To replace, just push it in.

 

I noticed it did that, but didn't know that it's accessible when it's installed in the car.

I've become used to just grabbing the **** off of the end.

On your blow up of the ****, I see where maybe it couls come off there - but it must be year dependant, because the underside of both my 1990 and 1992 **** didn't look like that - the only way on the 1990 1992 1992 cars is the chrome thing in the switch assembly.

 

Interesting. Is it molded on? That wouldn't be good if it were pulled apart.
