Great work on a sweet looking car. Can you tell me what color of blue it is?

 

It's a "stock" DuPont blue with a little extra metallic added in. All of my paint supplies are in storage so I can't give you a code.

What year dash is that? Is it from a bird or camaro?

 

It's a 2001 Camaro dash with 97 gauges and wiring.

Sweet, I just put a 97 dash in with the 97 gauges and wiring, but I didn't need to retain any A/C components or anything like that so it's a bit easier that way.

Not too much progress yet. I got the interior trim pieces back where they belong and I ordered some carpet for the amp trim and the sub box. I also ordered some new component speakers for the front but I don't want to start building the new kick panels until they get here. Once the carpet gets here I can cover the amp and sub boxes and get those attached to the car. The last thing will be the A-pillars. I started playing with those a few weeks ago but since I don't have a compressor right now, trimming is a pita! I'll save those for the very last since they will take the most time. Once the stereo system is complete, I'll post some pics of the almost finished progress.

 

How well does the air blow through the vents since the heat box mod? I swapped the entire heater box on my dash swap and was looking for info on how it blows like you done it. Does it blow like stock or does it feel restricked?

 

Well after three freakin weeks, my carpet material finally arrived last wednesday, along with my kenwood component speakers for the front. Here are some pics of the finished sub box and amp cover. I am on the fence about the amp cover. I don't know if I should cut out the openings for the amp or leave it the way it is. What do you guys think?

You might want to cut out the carpeting to reveal the amps. I've heard that they need air to be able to circluate around them, or they'll overheat. I like the kickpanel idea, I may do something similar, because the 4th gens dont have dash speakers.

 

Wow your car is awesome and its getting even better. My dad and i have been working on mine for almost a year now to get it how it is. When i'm older and have the money and time i would like to get another third gen and do the 4th gen interior like your are doing. Good luck with the project!

Small update -


I have been trying to build my kick panel speaker enclosures but realized I was just wasting my time when I started sanding the fiberglass and it was separating from the plastic. I have already spent too much time on these things and it is holding me up. I am just going to buy some premade kick panels for my component setup. I know some of you will cringe but it's a time vs. value thing. I want to drive this thing! I have finally gotten the BCM wiring figured out to match the 3rd gen wiring that managed to stay in the car. I have even left the wiring from the 4th gen harness to add the power windows with the express down and might even do the remote keyless entry at some point in the future. For now, everything works and the interior lights and radio stay on when the car is turned off and go off when the doors open. I realized I was missing the ground to the door switch so everything would stay on for about 10 minutes until the BCM shut everything down. Now I need to get the opti replaced and it's driveable. I will keep working on the a-pillar trim. I think this will be the hardes part of the whole project. Does anybody know where I can find a 97-02 6 speed console trim piece? Ebay and Hawk's are stupid expensive and these things are like gold in the junkyards.

Great thread dude! I work at an upholstery shop, so I love looking at cool interiors. I'm sorry to hear about your father passing, but he left a big part of him behind for you...the Camaro. Glad to see you are still keeping at it and making a great looking car!

Good looking car man! Got a question about your wheels and suspension, Are you sitting stock ride height? And are those factory C6 wheels in the 18/19 combo?
I've got the same wheels going on and I'm not sure if the 1.6" Sportlines I picked up will leave me enough clearance.

Stock springs with KYB adjustable shocks on all 4 corners. They are stock C6wheels with 2" spacers on the wheels. I am putting in a 4th gen rear in a few months so that will negate the rear spacers. I think the car sits too high right now but I am trying to get one thing done at a time. I will eventually cut the springs to get the ride height down but for now its' stock stuff.

 

Good progress this weekend. I got the Q-form kick panels last week and got them trimmed and mounted. My buddy came through with a 6-speed trim piece for the console and I mounted the steering wheel. I dare say the interior is finished! I did some quick cleaning and shot some pics. I will be replacing the opti in a couple of weeks and then it will be time to do some serious detailing so I can actually drive this thing before winter.


On a side note, I cranked the car today and it actually started, which surpised the $h!t out of me! I had to tow the damn thing when I moved it and now it starts. It is still sputtering and it even backfired on me when I goosed it really good. I am pretty sure the opti didn't get better over time but it is still getting yanked. I wish I could afford the LTCC kit but I need to leave my cars alone for a while so I can concentrate on the new house and all the things we will need for it.

 

Looks good! Are the kick pods for a 3rd gen or 4th gen with modifications to fit the sill plates? The color match is great with the dash.

Thanks for the info on the suspension too. I just realized that you have an Lt1 in your car. Now I'm sure I'll have to cut my Sportlines to make up for the lack of weight in the front end. heh I guess the nose in the air would be good for weight transfer but not really my style.

Great work man. Not sure how much them Optispark's are worth but there is a guy here in Vancouver selling a new one for $650 on cl. Not sure if that's a deal at all or if he'd be willing to ship it.

 

Whats that steering wheel off of? I kinda like it.

 

It's off a cavalier\lumina. Chevy used that wheel for several different cars. Bolts right up!

 

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of my father's death. 3 days from now will be the anniversary of a promise I made to him as I said goodbye. While the project is not 100%, it marks the end of what was started over 5 years ago.

Well, now that the interior is pretty much done, I have moved on to engine compartment. After 4 years, it's gotten pretty ugly. Here are some pics of the teardown.









And here is a little present my dad left me before he died.....

 

The plan is to repaint the inner fenders and headlight panel, install the 4th gen washer reservior, redo the steering reservoir, redo the heater hoses, paint the intake, paint the valve covers, and paint the brake booster and master cylinder, install new strut plates, and get the A/C hooked up.

 

Looks like it just needs washed out pretty well. Maybe a little rust preventative and some paint here and there but otherwise it looks great!

 

not much progress to report. I've gotten a couple of holes filled and I welded a stud for my ground wires. I need to get out to the junkyard and redo my steering reservoir. I have decided agains smoothing the fenderwells. I know it won't take too long but i really don't want to start cutting and welding patches since all I really need to do is scuff what's already there and repaint (along with some minor filler work).

Yes, the kick panel covers some of the gap and as soon as I finish building the A-pillar trim, that rest of the gap will be covered too.

 

I know I'm getting off of the interior topic now but here are some pics of the engine bay progress I made yesterday.

 

I have finally started working on the A-pillar trim and here is the beginning of the process. I didn't just bondo this together. I spent a couple of days trimming and fitting and fiberglassing to get the final product you see here:
