How to fix minor rust on roof interior
I took my headliner off to recover it and noticed some rust on the roof interior. It is not much, just a little near the rear view mirror (see pic). It does not look like rust is deep, just a little on the surface. Should I be worried about this? I can't get to the rust easily as the roof structural members block access. Is there some sort of sealer I can spray on this? I also took off my top dashboard. The underside has some metal exposed with similar surface rust. I'm curious to know what I can do on both areas. Maybe a little sanding and sealer? I know it's not much rust but thought I might as well take care of it while interiors out. Thanks.

Spray it with rust converter, do it several times and then spray some sealer over it.

Re: How to fix minor rust on roof interior
I went to autozone and got a little confused by all of the choices. I found rust converter that will turn black once sprayed. Do I need any specific sealer or will any do? I am also looking to spray paint my metal hatch trim. I know after sanding off rust I will need to use etch primer. I saw primer sealer and sandable primer sealer. Do I have to spary etch primer, primer paint, primer sealer, paint and then final sealer? I thought only etch primer, paint and sealer. Thanks!

I just did this when I did my floor. If the area is small, use some sandpaper to lightly scuff the rust (converter won't work if down to bare metal) and then apply. Later, clean with a solvent (mineral spirits etc.) then spray primer. Finally, cover it with something like Rustoleum.
Or, if you sand to bare metal, you won't need the converter, but still prime and paint afterward.

Thanks for the info. Getting headliner material in soon so I can have my roof back. I have some minor rust on floor pans under my carpet. I'm going to wait and yank out carpet later when I'll add sound deadning and fix stereo.
