What is coming out of my steering wheel

I have the standard steering wheel for an 87 GTA no radio controls....when it gets hot out something brown oozes out of the stitching on the inside of the steering wheel and drips onto the steering column.....then when it gets cold it hardens back up...what is inside the steering wheel?

Gross. I'd get rid of that wheel as fast as possible.

Re: What is coming out of my steering wheel

I am thinking it's the inside turning to gel somehow. Surely someone out there knows what it is

No smell....it has done it for about 3 years. I'm guessing it's some kind of glue or something...what is the steering wheel coated with?

Re: What is coming out of my steering wheel

Ya it's like the old nasty adhesive they used on the steering wheels. I'd get a new steering wheel.

In the meantime, do you use a sunshade on your windshield when you park it?

Re: What is coming out of my steering wheel

Mine does this too. I have thought about installing a Grant steering wheel and bringing my factory one inside to preserve it. Definitely use the windshield sunscreen though and try to park in the shade as much as possible. It's also possible to have the wheel refurbished, but it's expensive to do (guy on ebay does this).

I thought it was some sore of adhesive...good call on the sunshade...I'll start doing that.

Sounds weird, but would definitely be some old adhesive.... Or your car is Possessed!
