Re: converting grey interior to red
okay so i've made some progress on the paint thing. i've been told to stay away from the sem products as they like to flake and peel, and a guy who has been doing interiors for 30 years told me to use krylon fusion products, as they have worked excellent for him.
here's the link to the colors of red i can choose from. i'm not sure which to go with there are two colors that look kind of close, i don't need a 100% match, but something close would be good!!!
i'm in between the colors of "red pepper" and "sun dried tomato".

Re: converting grey interior to red
flame red is the color your trying to get close to for a 92 Camaro.
i know you posted you dont care is its not spot on..
this is a shot of a 92 Z28 with the flame red. just before the driver seat was removed for the aftermarket seats.
so you can see the shades

this one is to dark i think

Re: converting grey interior to red
I have some of the smaller red plastic parts if you're interested. (Hatch lift covers, screws, seat belt hole covers etc.) I have a few different shades but could look and see what I have. Send a PM if interested.

Re: converting grey interior to red
or trade with someone... IIRC, red was one of the most common interior colors, and grey is one of the most desireable because it matches anything

They always say, there is a first time for everything, and today must be the one for someone wanting to convert TO red.

Re: converting grey interior to red
all i am saying is that out of all the camaros i have seen in junkyards and driving around, around 3/4 of them have red interiors. the really nice ones have black or grey interiors. i saw one with a white interior once.
i agree with stephen.
I have a red interior and would LOVE to trade or somehow buy a grey interior.
my carpet is in relatively pristine shape, but my seats are a bit buggered up expecially the side bolster on the driver side.
my suggestion, save your grey stuff.
you will be able to sell it one day for decent cash.
go with red if you want though
btw, arcticwhiteZ, i am not understanding your post.
i guess the lack of tone makes your sarcasm hard to get

Re: converting grey interior to red
Lol, I was trying to give them away, and IMO it's much better to start out with the right color in the first place.
Maybe a trade for grey would be better.
I usually don't like red either, but I do in a few cases. This being one of them.
From what I've seen red and (bluish)gray are the most common at the junk yards. The most popular plastics IMO have been black.

I would consider a trade red for grey out of any later model (prefferebly a 91-92) thirdgen. Lmk if any of you would like to trade!!! My plastics are in great shape.

Re: converting grey interior to red

gray and black (drab as there are)go with anything Most of the time.. saves GM from spending more money on diff colors..
but alot of us like a bit of Zing...POP & wow.. to go with the outside.
when i orderd My Z28 back in Feb/Mach of 92. i Looked at all the colors they had.. i picked Flame Red..to go with the Artic White out side..
they only had 3 real Hot Rod colors for the out side
Artic White (Dk red/ flame red/ black / tan)
Black (could get black red or tan)
Red could get tan/black/red for flash
Blue (nothing But Blue/black for the inside)
they had others but nothing with Flash for a Hot rod..
just Drab Colors. tan & gray
now think if they would have done Purple & black for the inside
of a Z28 with Purple finish. or even 2 tone Purple for the seats.
but they did not spend any money on things like that.
you had to get the 30th anvrsy or the 35th anvrsy. to get Zing and Pop

Re: converting grey interior to red
red and black are just 1 of only a few colors GM put together that Just Look Good Together! even the After market Know to used them together.
add a splash of white on the seats to Match the Body color..and you get a bit More Zap!..
yes gray go's with alot of other colors. but has no POP or Zzzing...
sorta like Tan.. you would have to add somthing to it to Give it that stand out Thing..
But thats Just Me..

Re: converting grey interior to red
I've torn the garage apart and finally found my baggie of red parts but they're all closer to maroon. I know I had some of the bright red ones in there but they're not there now. I also came across front seat belt guides and outer plastic sheaths. I can get some pics tomorrow.
Edit: I'm sorry, they're not the bright red color you're looking for though.

Re: converting grey interior to red
Here's everything I could find. There are some of the brighter colors in there and everything needs to be cleaned up. I saved most of it over the years from the local Upull as it would have been thrown out otherwise. I'm not sure if you want everything or just the brighter colored stuff but I might want to keep a set of seat belt guides and few other things including the arm rest plugs.

Re: converting grey interior to red
glad i looked at this, i threw away my seatbelt guides today by accidentm not paying attention to what they were. I'm going to red metalic the interior of my car by using krylon fusion primer, then metalcast metalic primer, then red metalcast over it, which is semi-transparent letting the sparkles go thorough
Re: converting grey interior to red
It's really nive.I wouldn't do it. Painted interiors look stupid if it is too bright. They will also not last very long. The interior parts are not really meant to be painted. If you are a expert painter, and using the correct products, it might turn out ok.
