Camaro Trunk Question

For Camaro's (maybe FB too, but I don't know), is/was there a panel or something that could be placed in the trunk over top the storage hole (for lack of better word) that make the trunk flat?

Re: Camaro Trunk Question

a hinged panel that covers that area was an option . i have seen a few . i have made a couple of covers for that area . nothing special or hard to do . get a large section of cardboard , trim it to size for opening . transfer to 5/16 - 3/8 good plywood . put legs ( 2x2 ) on the 4 corners , another 2x2 strip or wider plywood strip across the bottom for center support . cover with same color carpet , small cabinet door handles on both sides . done , a lift in/out cover for the " PIT " . has & is working for me , i'm happy . good luck .

Re: Camaro Trunk Question

There was - it's a hard cover made of plastic and covered in carpet. Where it attaches, it doesn't quite make the rear flat, but close. It took a key as well for lockable storage. Along with it, there had to be the correct rear panel piece as well, since it rested on this piece and locked into it.

I'm told they were made for both manual closing hatches, as well as the motorized hatch, but I've never actually seen even pictures of one that was designed for the motorized hatch. They were different, since the rear panel on the motorized hatch stuck out farther to accomodate the hatch motor.

But it does exist.

Here's a pic - this seller actually says this is from a motorized hatch rear, and he also has one from a regular hatch rear. I might have to dish out some Santa money on this if someone doesn't beat me to it. I've installed my own subs now, and really don't need it, but I do like to collect all the possibilities Check it out:

RPO D27 (Cover, locking rear storage). From 84-89 thousands were produced. Here's the how-to should anyone be interested:

Re: Camaro Trunk Question

I have a couple of shallow rear hatch panels if anyone is interested. They're tan with the metal hinge. For some reason I also have the deeper style rear plastic piece in the same color. Since that rear panel on Ebay sold for $35, would anyone be interested in any of them for $30 ea?
Keep in mind that shipping might be expensive though.

I want to say there's a difference between coupe and t-top as well--but I'm not betting the farm.

Re: Camaro Trunk Question

i have one, i havent gotten around to putting it on. i'm still deciding whether to have that or the shade + which would be better for my sound system.

the one i have is covered in carpet and has a spot for the lock (which is gone) and a handle next to it.
it bolts to the hump right where it starts to slope down

FWIW: Mine came with both the cargo cover and shade. When I changed interior plastics I had to add the holes for the roller shade and noticed a difference of where the hole for the shade is located.

Re: Camaro Trunk Question

My auto hatch has a locking cover. I never realized it was an option, always thought it came with all of them. If anyone wants pictures I can run out and get em.

Re: Camaro Trunk Question

You could also get the Bose plate too, it had a couple ported speakers in it. I think they were either 4 inches or 6.5's.. can't remember
