83 Trans Am Steering Column Housing Replacement
83 Trans Am Steering Column Housing Replacement
Hey everyone!
A few years back someone tried to steal my 1983 Firebird T/A, and fortunately for me, they were idiots... they tried to hot-wire the turn signals ::: sigh :::
In any event, they ripped apart the housing on the steering column that contains the turn signal switch, locking plate, etc. I have been unable to locate a replacement part for this piece so I'm still using the original with half of it missing.
I did find an after market replacement, but unfortunately it is designed for a tilt column and is not compatible with the non-tilt column (none of the interior mounting holes line up correctly... this was determined after I completely disassembled my steering column to remove the original housing.)
Does anyone know where I can obtain a replacement for this piece? Perhaps a local salvage yard, or after market manufacturer? Since this piece is the most commonly damaged piece during a theft attempt, I would hope that there must be some out there somewhere... I haven't been able to find any locally.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've recently had the exterior completely restored (and most of the interior) and it would be a shame to have the eye-sore of a broken steering column housing.
All the best for a prosperous new year to all!
Greg
