Re: LED Dash lights

Which LEDs did you order? I ordered the ones with four diodes in them. Thats what makes them brighter. If you got LEDs with only one, they might be dim.

Re: LED Dash lights

I ordered the ones with one diode. They light up the foot area pretty good but not the gauges. If the paint won't help then I'll just sell the LEDs and get the 4 diode ones.

Re: LED Dash lights

I've got an updated picture of mine. Not a whole lot of difference, maybe a bit truer red now that I've painted the back of the metal bezel a flat white. I've also painted the front of the bezel red to match the car.

Pay no attention to the dirty interior (work in progress )

take the top of your dash off and take the light out.

on your workdesk, take out the light ( you will probably crush it), and use the housing to put in your blue led + resistor.
you can also reuse the old connector that was on that little light.

now reinstall the light in the car.

if you did it right and you put our lights on in your car, there should be a blue glow over you heater/radio/shifter.

also put some white leds in your rearview mirror. and put some 194 blue wedges in your shifter and heater panel.
Pontiacs have that by default. I hate it.

Re: LED Dash lights

Check the dimmer on the light switch? Sometimes they have a dead spot or two, mine does and should be replaced. Also the INST LIGHTS fuse can be blown.

Re: LED Dash lights

Heyy C. Sander,
did you change the light for the shift indicator (ya know it tells you if you are in first or second for a manual or drive and park and stuff for an auto) because i have been trying to do the LED for my car and i changed the bulb that illuminates the indicator but the housing is painted red so the light comes through as red on the other side. any ideas???

Thanks for anything,
John

Actually on my screen its more red than orange. Either way that looks KILLER. I like yours. Ill be going with Defi gauges, but LED's look good on the stock gauges.

13 type 194 4xLED Blue from superbrightleds.com
thread became a bit confusing so to simplify things a few questions
how many 4x 194s does it take to complete the dash?
is it true 4x means 4 diodes?
do I have to remove the cluster to do the mod?
or can one reach up behind to replace the bulbs?
has anyone tried this mod with the uv blacklite led?

Re: LED Dash lights

Here's mine, did em about 2 years ago with with blue LEDS. I'd recommend some sort of gloss white spray paint on the metal piece backside so the LEDs really reflect onto the gauges.

Re: LED Dash lights

So, Do u keep the stock lights in the Dash Or do u remove them and replace them with the LED's. Or do u just mount the LED's and removed the stock lighting?

Also what is the part # to go with.

Just wondering before i brought them

type 91camaro from belgium in google

note on the broken white/ greyish dash ( its not really white )
it does reflect in my windshield so I advise you make something to cover it up while driving.

Re: LED Dash lights

chassis is hit and the passenger front wheel is 1+ cm off center from the wheelwell ( rearwards )
its a v6, and it keeps eating up the middel sparkplug on the passengers side.

the suspension is toast and my goverment wont let me tune it. ( except the koni's everything would be illegal ( eibach springs dont have EU approbel for F-body springs) , we cant change to PU rubbers, cant change swaybars, cant weld SFC's, cant convert drums to discs, cant replace discs with perforated discs,.....

on the other hand. now that i'm working the car actually makes me money, since I get payed 0.33 euro/km
and this month I drove 2500km for work with this car.
and since it runs on propane ( LPG ) wich kosts 0,5 euro/L
it only costs me 6 to 7 euro/ 100km ( 0,06 cent/km ) to drive it around.

so this month it costed me 200 euro's on fuel, and delivered me 800+ euro.

You have to paint the metallic "bezel" which is black in front and blue behind. Just put some white paint on the blue side and it will reflect light better.

the shift indicator is the same as the dash 194. The dome light idk the number but I got a red bulb that was the same as the stock (cept it was red) from pep boys. The previos owner also change lights that light under the dash when you open the door with red lights. So when I turn the headlight **** all the at to the left everything is red

I would say the dome light uses a 42mm Festoon bulb. That's what I have in mine.

Ok thanks. Order is placed with superbrightleds. I got the 42mm festoon in "cool white" and the HP5 194 replacement 5xLED in white for the shifter.

I am using this for my dome. Had it in my Z31, very bright and clean. Plus it comes with many adapters if ever needed.

Digital Gauges mentioned earlier.

Dakota Digital has some. Changing the color is easy since Dakota uses a thin colored lens over the gauges. Get yourself a colored lens to your liking and cut to fit.

Re: LED Dash lights

I just finished doing my blue LED conversion yesterday. I used the 4x 90 degree ones and I wish they were brighter. I would use the 6x next time. I may paint the back of the bezel at some point. I ordered 15 of them and used 9 in the instrument cluster, 1 courtesy lights by your driver's feet, 1 for the "P N D 2 1" (required mod, but looks really cool), 1 for the ashtray light (also required mod, using unused socket from dash), and 3 for the heater control lights, but found out I really don't need them with the moded ashtray light so will be removing them tomorrow and use 1 for the passenger courtesy light and have 2 spares.

Just curious as to why you had to mod for the parking light? Mine was a simple remove the old bulb and replace it with the led. Is it diff on a gta or something? Jc

On my car it is one of those tiny lightbulbs, the same as is in the heater controls.

Re: LED Dash lights

Got my LEDs in but 42mm festoon is waaayyyy too small for the dome light. I got an OE replacement at Autozone since the LED won't fit. The bulb is 561LL.

Just so you know the 561 bulb measures to 42mm. So I think you may have got the wrong bulb from Superbrightleds. Measure the "42mm Festoon" from SBL, should come in roughly depending on how you measure it, around 1.6"-1.7" length, but by the sounds of it, won't be close at all to that. So send it back and get the right one from them.

I used that one in my daily driver, but I had to melt the caps into the plastic and solder the loops into the caps. Not a hard job, those ones were a little longer than the stock and work great.

Those guys are pretty fast delivery too, and great prices.
