I would highly recommend this mod to anyone with a thirdgen. It is one of the easiest mods i have done on my car, and makes our dashes look 100x better.

i have a 91 z is their any way to get rid of the yellow on the numbers, it gives my blue led's a green tint
What I would try is nail polish since it is easily purchased and readily available. But I don't know if it can last the elements. But before you try it, color something else and put next to the light for comparison. U might wanna paint a soda can and leave it outside for a months to see if the elements make the color change, peel, or crack.

i dont think the lights would shine thru then since nail polish isnt transparent i just want to get rid of the yellow tint

Hey guys, this doesnt have much to deal with dash lights but its in the same area so to speak
My shifter lights lightbulb died, and i was wondering if you get a replacement bulb somewhere or if youre suppose to replace the harness? Sorry i dont know much about this haha.
Im guessing theres a bulb at autozone and such but i just wanted to make sure

Maby you can find a colored thin plastic film such as that of window tint. It would be tough to know what the resulting color would be since there will be 3 different shades of color (led, plastic coloered film, and the color on the gauges).Originally Posted by 89lt1

there is a small light bulb just like the ones inside the gauges. Autozone has them.Originally Posted by dylanjessy

i believe its a size 74 bulb? in my automatic 89 you have to remove the plate then unscrew the two screws from the shifter light. its like half the size of a 194 bulb hope this helps Originally Posted by dylanjessy

I went ahead and just put red LED's in my stock '91 cluster. It actually turned out better than I thought it would. It doesn't look great in the pictures because I was using the camera on my phone. It's actually very evenly lit throughout unlike how it looks in the photo. There are no dark areas on it, overall I'm very satisfied for the time being.

It kinda reminds me of the cluster in my '06 Grand Prix. The camera on my phone makes the red lighting look pink and distorted on both the clusters...

the yellow numbers on the cluster didnt mess with the color of your lights as much but since i put blue lights in my numbers look green.

I've got a blue CD player display (super bright too haha), and a blue Interceptor scan gauge on th a-pillar. I don't really care though, the red in the cluster turned out better than the blue in my opinion.

Just wondering what everyone who has done this mod has decided is the best colour to paint the back side of the metal bezel to make the LEDs shine brighter on the gauges. White, Silver, Chrome, or just put foil tape on the back side?

I painted my bezel white and got a good enough result. I think that any white, silver or chrome is better than the factory light blue paint on the back of the bezel. Originally Posted by norco250

5215 WHERE DO I GET THOSE WHITE GUAGES? I saw some youtube videos of Camaros doing burnouts, and someone had a dash that looked like that, and said it was $20 brand new. I wonder if he just meant the LED lights? I want the white, and the LED. Thanks if anyone can respond, that would be greee-at.

I installed the LED's in my dash today, and I have a couple extra so I decided to try to put them in the map lights on the rear view mirror to match the LED dome light I got. But they dont fit? the housing is to wide.
So my question is, has anyone else run in to this problem? and how did you fix it. Or which is the proper LED to order that would fit in there?
Thanks

yups, know what you mean, the trick is to take the mirror itself out.Originally Posted by norco250

then take out the complete lampholders, change the lamps to leds.
put the lampholders back behind the mirror. put the mirror back in it. and done

will take you 20 to 30 minutes if you don't know how to do it. and have to search after everything.
if you know how it al works, it will take you 5 to 10 mniutes.
a small flat screwdriver will help you to take the bezef of infront of the mirror itself

Thats what I did. but when I was trying to put the LED and socket back into the lense it wouldnt fit because the housing of the LED itself is wider then the regular bulb that went in there. Did you just force it and it worked? I dont want to break any of the plastic.
Junior Member
anyone else have trouble fitting the LEDs into the rear view mirror map lights?
Junior Member
Hey, those LED's are sweet. but i couldn't help but notice your temperature gauge is in Celsius, what temperature is our cars supposed to run at in Celsius? I've been reading Fahrenheit my whole life.

about the temps.
195 degrees fahrenheit ( stock thermostat ) is 90 degrees celcius . ( operating temp )
230 degrees is 110 degrees celcius, temp the fan kicks in on a v6
212 degrees is 100 degrees celcius, temp the fan kicks back out.

I see a lot of people posting about being happy and satisfied with results like this. Is this the best you can expect with non cool white LEDs. All of the pictures I've seen thus far look severely dim and blotchy. You can't even see some of the numbers in the pictures in this post. The only one that didn't look dim was the one posted before using the cool white.Originally Posted by Chevy86 IROC-Z

These pictures are taken with my BlackBerry, which has no LED flash and a 2 megapixel resolution. They do look better than the picture shows. But other than that, the blue light can get brighter with another type of LED as well as some aluminum tape behind the gauges. Ill help keep the light from being absorbed into the back of the gauges and will help reflect the light.Originally Posted by Steven6282

They really do look nice, dont worry these pictures are dim, all the numbers will show up bright as day, I even made my turn indicators blue for extra style points. It really helps to pull the cluster out of the dash so you can twist off the light holder thingies and change to the LEDs that way, since they only work one way its a real pain trying to get to some of them with a pair of pliers! especially the turn indicators D: Just hold the cluster in place and figure out which LEDs need to be turned around. When thats done bolt the cluster back together (: Its a really nice setup for stock, the A/C and heat controls light up too, a bit dim tho and if you drive automatic that lights up blue as well
Junior Member
I noticed on superbrightleds.com, if you try to find LEDs using the vehicle bulb finder, they list a different number for the gauge panel than people have listed on here. They list 191 and 74 rather than 194. I trust the people on here who have done the mod, rather than the site, but what is the difference exactly? Why the different numbers?

thanks a lot, was a bit of work, I ordered my LED's off of Ebay, and made my own mounts/etc. Of course, in the car, I used the dimmer switch to make them not so bright, because at night time, they are just ridiculous bright if they are on full power Originally Posted by Chevy86 IROC-Z

I'm gonna make a video tutorial for this as well for anyone having problems or for future reference, I'll post the link and my end results when I'm done. Thanks for the great site for bulbs
