Anyone know how to install Autometer gauges?
I am thinking about replacing my stock gauges with autometers , I know covans makes these but I dont feel like paying that much for something i might be able to do my self. Ive seen alot of pic on how some guys have made their own gague panel and I think I could do it without alot of difficulty. My problem is I know nothing about how to install Autometer gagues. I have an 91 rs and i know that they are electric.....what I dont know is how to actually install the gages to my stock wireing....If anyone has done this or knows how to or another advice please help.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Anyone know how to install Autometer gauges?
If you can't follow the Autometer wiring directions & figure out how to tie them into the factory wiring....Don't get started. Or you'll end up not only paying to have it done, but paying to have your mistakes fixed as well. That is, if you don't short stuff out, burn up the gauges, have to buy new ones again, or even set the car on fire & burn it down.
Simply adding gauges is one thing. Redoing all your stock gauges as Autometer gauges is a much bigger project.

yeah,
its not that hard but you may want to get some help or buy a book on automotive wiring.

Thanks for the advice....I know a little about wirenig but never have used Autometer gauges before....I was thinkink about just using an A-pilliar with three smaller ones if this build was to difficult. So just adding a couple isnt really that hard..how so?

Like they said, it isn't hard if you know what you're doing, or if you can follow directions. If you can't do one or both of those, whip out the Franklins and have somebody else do it.
Each gauge is going to be different, and that would have a major impact on exactly what needs to be done, but in general, it's just a matter of tapping into the right existing wires, or running new wires to new sensors. The "know what you're doing" part comes in when it's time to identify the correct wires, or having enough of an understanding of your car to know how/where to run new wires and how/were to install new sensors.

Re: Anyone know how to install Autometer gauges?
Cool thanks ...Im a pretty good do it yourselfer, and i can follow directions ....i was just kinda looking for some advice and tipps. Its gona be a while before i do this because currently I have a rearend rebuild schelduled for spring and hopefully Ill be dropping in a new engine and tranny by the end of summer. I was just trying to figure out if I wanted to keep my stock gagues and dress them up a bit i.e white face plates new LED's, or do a complete autometer installation.
Re: Anyone know how to install Autometer gauges?
The Covan's kit comes with instructions and a chart that tells you what wire goes to what stock wire. I installed the Phantom gauges with a Carbon fiber panel in my 85 Z a few years ago. Was worth it IMO And will do it again after I get the 02 Camaro dash installed into my 92 RS listed in profile.
