signs of odometer tampering?
signs of odometer tampering?
Hey, first post (wooo). I've been saving for a third gen camaro for a while now and browsing for sale sites.
Question 1 - I see some camaros (can't remember the years) have a 5 digit odometer, is there anyway of truely knowing how many miles/kilometers, if it has more than 100,000 or 200,000 ?
Question 2 - I saw in another post about the lines seperating the odometer digits turing white as a sign of possible tampering, are there any more signs or ways to tell??
thanks to anyones that can help me out I really appreciate it

Re: signs of odometer tampering?
I'll let you in on a little secret... That anti-tampering thing appears in all the owners manuals. All of the thirdgen odometers I've seen don't actually have that feature. Besides, anyone can swap the entire cluster for any number of reasons and you'll see no evidence of tampering.
You're best bet for determining actual mileage, beyond a Carfax or similar VIN check is going to be common sense review of the cars physical condition. If someone says a car has 30,000 original miles and the console armrest is trashed, the seats have holes in them, the rubber pads on the pedals are gone or worn significantly, etc then it's safe to say the car has 130,000 or 230,000. At this point these cars are mileage exempt anyway. Physical condition means more then mileage anyway.
