4th Gen Dash swap
I am looking to get a 4thgen dash for my 1986 Trans Am, i know the 93-97 works fine, is there anything about the 98-01 that would not work? I did searchs and saw that there is some issue with the fuel gauge but that can be overcomed. It there any issue or mods needed to mount it in? Need help asap, I have a 98-01 dash available to me and need to know if i should buy it or not

Re: 4th Gen Dash swap
The dash year being 93-02 does not affect anything. They all mount the same. If you use a 98-02 camaro dash you simply buy a 93-97 trans am cluster it pops right in. The topic has been beaten to death on here for years now.

Re: 4th Gen Dash swap
Im running a 95 Firebird dash in my 87 Camaro, fits and looks great. Im planning an LS1 swan soon so I'll be popping out the 95 cluster for the 99 cluster.

Re: 4th Gen Dash swap
its pretty easy, just get all of the wiring diagrams and you should be fine. the sides to mound the lower bracket need to be made. I simply cut the top off the 3rd gen side bracket bent it in 90 degrees and made 2 Z shaped pieces to connect it to the lower bracket.
here my thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...-gen-dash.html
a simple search should help you figure the rest out.
someone on here said something about makind a complete guide to the swap but i dont think he ever did, i thought about making it...i still might.

Re: 4th Gen Dash swap
I'm having trouble finding what I need to know to do this swap. The 97 T/A dash was shipped out today, so I should be getting it next week. Where can I get ahold of the wiring diagrams I need? Or if anyone has some step by step instructions that would be great!

Re: 4th Gen Dash swap
I have a 92 rs I changed the front end for a 83 FIREBIRD it came our sweet is posted on the gallery now I'm doing a dash swap I'm using a 99 camaro dash but now to wire the head lights is going to be a challenge because this uses more wires because of the motor on the head lights any help. If I use the 99 dash and sending unit do I face any problems with the fuel gauge?
Re: 4th Gen Dash swap
shbox.com has a wiring diagram for 95 firebird dash cluster -
http://shbox.com/1/95_ta_cluster_pinout.jpg
And when I installed a 97.5 cluster it worked with that wiring. The 97.5 Camaro cluster uses the same connector but 2-3 wires are switched around. Halfway through the 97 year they changed to digital odometers instead of mechanical.
3rdgen wiring should be in the technical articles section - https://www.thirdgen.org/technical-articles

Re: 4th Gen Dash swap
If change the connectors I can still use the 99 cluster? With the 99 sending unit?
Do you know if any of the suspension parts will fit the 3rd generation from the 99.
Do you think the FIREBIRD swap looks good on my car?

Re: 4th Gen Dash swap
when doing the dash swap did you retain the heater? if so did you have to use half of the 3rd gen and half of the 4th. do you have any pictures or diagrams of that? I have done the swap already but deleted the heater and am regretting that part already.Any help would be great
