85 to 140 cluster swap

Engine: Rebuilt 305 Carb
Transmission: Built 700R4
Axle/Gears: The unfortunate Open Diff, 3.23
85 to 140 cluster swap

i have an 85 t/a with the 85mph cluster, and i have a used 140mph cluster on the way, not sure what its out of but i think its an 85 too. what is involved in swapping the 85 to the 140?

is your 85 cluster cable operated.replacing the cluster is easy but take your time and dont just try to pull it straight out, you have to tilt it out

Your '85 Trans Am has a cable driven speedometer. All of the 120 and 140 MPH Firebird speedometers are electronic so you'll have to convert your car over for an electronic speedo. (All '86-'92 Firebirds got electronic speedos.) There are posts here on TGO that tell you everything you need to do.
