"Should" being the key word there. haha. I'm on my 3rd, ThirdGen and none of them had a working hatch slider. I've just gotten so use to opening it up with the good ol' key.... I'll fix it one of these days. There's multiple threads here with good instructions on how to do so if yours doesn't work either.
Good luck!

From what I recall, Orange is constant, Yellow is ignition. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, apparently I suck! haha. Ah well. I'm not worried. Sweet deal for you though. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you how that switch works, or have ever seen it working on a thirdgen. One day... just like I say for everything else. lol.

These things can be wired directly (assuming your solonoid hasn't gone bad) but I don't like them on the center console that way, there's too big a chance you will hit it while driving. I installed mine to the area right next to the hood release. It's just a 12V power source to the switch, and then the switch continues that right back to the hatch. really simple

lol for all the maros i looked at including mine the slider always worked, however if you used the key to open the hatch the motor releases it but gets stuck and you need to jimmy the latch for the motor to pop up then it can pull hatch back down

Safety feature, hatch will not open when gear is in "Drive". You will need to put it in "Park" then it will work again. At least that's the way my 88 Camaro is.
