Steering column-high beams & horn issue
I've been restoring an 85 IROC Z28 now for about 10 months and I've been very excited to get it on the road in a few weeks. I was doing my last few things which included putting my new grant steering wheel on. While i was doing this I noticed my high beams and horn did not work. This will not past safety and I need this problem fixed ASAP. I have no knowledge of steering columns...do I need to buy a whole new steering column or just a couple parts? What do I do?

Re: Steering column-high beams & horn issue
High beams - the lever is pulled, which works a rod in the column, that pushes a switch at the bottom of the column. The switch is located above the brake pedal. 99% of the time the switch just needs adjusted - ie slid towards the steering wheel so that the rod is pushing into the switch farther and working the switch. There are 7mm boltheads - loosen and ever so slightly slide the switch upwards towards the wheel just a tad, retighten and try the lever again.
Horn is a simple 2 wire thing - press the button and the metal plate with wire attached grounds - completing the horn circuit.

Thanks a lot, I will try to adjust the switch and see if that works but my brother informed me that the actual coil, the inner little plastic piece that has all the locks and wires in it with the harness that goes down the steering column is broken. Where do I buy this part and if adjusting the switch doesn't work where could I buy this part?

I have seen those at O'reilly's I used to have a part number but I cant find it. You might just give them a call. At worst they may have to order it. It came from another O'reilly's accross town and it sure was cheaper than the dealership.

Re: Steering column-high beams & horn issue
I found the part I need from a GM dearlership...somehow they had one in stock hahah. I just hope adjusting the switch solves highbeam problem but my horn problem will be solved now.
Thanks a lot for the advice, I'll see if adjusting works first.
