Tall driver fits ok in 89 Firebird?

Weird question but here goes...

Wanting to realize my dream of owning an 89 Formula 350.

One is for sale, I have to fly to get it and drive back.

But I'm concerned, a few years ago I remember sitting in a Firebird and not fitting. I'm almost 6'4", but only 175 lb.

Am I to tall for my dream car?

Calling all tall guys! Do you fit?

Thanks, Tim

Just make sure the seats work properly. You should be okay. My buddy is 6'5 and 310 lbs he fit okay in my car, just don't plan on anybody sitting behind you.

My buddy is 6'6" 210lbs IIRC and can fit perfectly, I mean, he fits in his little Mustang for crying out loud he better fit in our open spaced 3rd gens. I think your good to go. Post when you get it. WITH YOU IN IT

Re: Tall driver fits ok in 89 Firebird?

Doubt it'll be a problem. These cars have TONS of legroom, more then most other cars (in the front atleast....not so much the back)

I'm 6'5". I know 58mark is 6' 7". Neither of us have a problem.

If you wanna do a search here on TGO, there are already threads about this exact same thing.

I'm 6'4 and on bumpy roads, I hit my head on the t-tops. It all depends on how you are built. Short legs/Tall Torso and vice versa will make the difference.

I agree with others that legroom is quite good in these cars.

If you do end up being to tall you can swap some 4th gen seats in. If I'm not mistaken they will lower you about an inch. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. And more than just 1", I suspect. While that hasn't specifically been mentioned in this thread, it has in the other 1/2 dozen threads currently going on, on this same subject.

Also if the seats are worn down a bit well the padding in them you get more room I am not that tall I am only 5 10 but my stock seats were worn down in padding and I had a good 6 inches above my head atleast.

Re: Tall driver fits ok in 89 Firebird?

Another thing to think about (if it hasn't been mentioned) is a T-tops car has a slightly lower roof-line due to the t-top structure. A hardtop would give you the most headroom.

I'm 6'2 and have no trouble fitting in my camaro or my prior firebird. I do second the idea of 4th gen seats for us bigger guys though.

Re: Tall driver fits ok in 89 Firebird?

what about the people 7 feet in a miata. anyone ever see one of those ridiculous looking guys? I have a neighbor who's about 6'5, he bought a miata for his wife, she didint want it so guess what hes stuck driving to work in it every morning!

I'd rather be 7 feet in a firebird then 7 feet in a miata so I say go for it

I am 6' 4", i fit in quite comfortably, my only gripe is that I have to tilt up the steering wheel, feels like a tractor, I see a momo/sparco steering wheel in my future..

6'8" with shoes on... fit fine, but the 4th gen seats helped a little

LOL... same here... I have to tilt the wheel when I get in or out, but when I'm in there, I tilt it back down so it's between my legs.... It's easier to steer with you leg while drinking coffee....

I never move my seat or steering wheels tilt. It stays right where it is, 24/7.

Re: Tall driver fits ok in 89 Firebird?

I'm 6'4",240LBS.I've been in hard tops with stock seats and it's kind of tight in the headroom department.I usually have to tilt the seat back some to not hit the headliner. The t-tops cars(like mine)have quite abit more head room i find.I also put a set of Sunfire gtx seats in my car that make it feel like i'm sitting on the floor compared to the old stock seats. If i could find a set of 4th gen seats around here,i'd have used them, but the Sunfire/Cavalier seats are a nice fit and very inexpensive to get.
