speedometer problem

speedometer problem

i have an 89 iroc and i recently swapped a speedometer because the needle on my old one broke but once i put the new one in it's 5 off when i go about 10- 25 mph and once i get to about 40mph or higher it's off by 15 mph has anyone else have this problem or any solutions?

If the speedo is reading low and/or bouncing, it's possible that in replacing the speedo head, you dislodged 20+ years of crude in the cable/housing and that that crud is causing problems. Check the following link for the cleaning procedure:

If the speedo is reading high and/or bouncing, I'd guess the head is defective.
