solution to a brighter interior and interior gauges?
hi ok i pulled over all the covers to my instrumental gauges to where you could take of the guages and all because i was going to remove all the bulbs and replace because mine are extremly dim. well i did all that and found out that you dont get to them that way. so how do i get to them? also i was curious on how i could get the interior to light up a bit more iv replaced the bulb overhead light with a new basic bulb and iv cleaned up the white cover as good as i could with plastic polish. its a tad bit lighter but not much so what is something else i could do? thanks. btw i found a thread about painting one of the pieces of the intrumental parts silver. is this pretty simple to do?

the bulbs mount from the back of the cluster. you have to remove the 4 bolts holding it in and pull it out all the way to get to the bulbs. it takes like a 1/4 to get them out.

no, you have to pull the cluster (the white plastic holding the gauges in) i know on 90-92 theres 4 bolts, 2 on top and 2 on bottom, that hold the cluster in.
heres a pic of an 84 (i think) gauge cluster. you can see where the bolt holes on the top are.
edit: i guess it helps if i attach the pic....

Two nuts in the earlier clusters. Here's a removal how-to (second para):

Painting the bezel is included. High-intensity bulbs in the gauges or perhaps LED's. LED's in the dome light. The following link provides the idea:

The entire white housing with all guages in tact mounted to it comes out as one unit, then the bulbs are accessed from behind - you don't take the individual guages out of the white housing.
For the dome, get a led array from ebay - I think mine has 30 leds and it's very nice and bright at night.

if you really want a much brighter bulb in your instrument panel, take a look at superbrightleds.com, they have direct replacement leds that should brighten things up quite a bit. i think you can even get colored ones for a more custom look.

if you look at the pic i posted earlier, you can see where the two bolts mount the cluster at the top. in the big squares just above the big circular light holes. since you have a cable driven speedo, you might have to disconnect the cable. i dont know how much slack they have or how far you can pull the cluster out with it attached.
