i need help with my lights and power locks
i am very new to this forum(just made the account 2 minutes ago) i am also a member on camaroforum.com. i got into my 91 RS today and noticed no lights turned on and my power locks dont work. the lights and the power locks worked fine when i got the car. the power windows still work and the car starts and drive perfect. anyone think they know the problem? i am trying to check the fuses but i can't find a diagram . can anyone help me?
Re: i need help with my lights and power locks
I blew a fuse in my 92 Firebird when the cigarette lighter adapter for my gps broke and shorted the system. I can't remember if it effected the windows. It resulted in the door locks not working as well. I'm guessing your fuse may have blown as you suspected. It is one of the fuses under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. I believe it says "fuses" on the panel. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I don't think there are a whole lot of them to check. I think you can get in there with a flashlight and see which one blew without removing them if I remember correctly.

yeah sounds like the accsesory fuse(think thats the proper name) mine kept blowing because the lighter would cause it to short, no matter how many lighters i used it would always blow, so i put some black tape around the lighter and solved the problem since i dont smoke anyway

i dunno how similar birds are to camaros in this area but on my 89 formula my wipers wouldnt work one morning and i thought it was a freak surge that popped the fuse. i popped in another and off i went. VERY shortly it did it again and i popped in another and it went right away. luckily i had rain-x on the glass so seeing was no issue.
when i was almost home from work my lights were doing something weird they had done a year or so earlier and couldnt track down. i pull in the drive and start ripping the dash apart. i drop the fuse block and start chasing.
what ever it was, something told me to roll this fat chunk of harness over that is on the kick panel side of the fuse block and there it was 4 wires that had the insulation rubbed off by the lower dash support bracket.
cut 4 pieces of electrical tape and wrapped each wire up, put some heavy foam between hte harness and the support and all was good.
a friends 86 T/A had the same issue.

By lights, do you mean inside dome light? . When that accessory fuse goes out it takes out the dome light, power door locks, power mirrors, horn, radio, third brake light, maybe front marker/turn signal lights, lighter, and maybe more, I forget. Is all that stuff out? Frequently its the lighter shorting out. disconnect it and replace the accessory fuse and if all now works just replace the lighter element before reconnecting. Good luck
