Power window switch smoking!????
Hi all, I have a 91 bird and my driver side window has been slow for some time now. Usually it is when rolling it back up. It will be slower than the passenger side. Anyways , the other day i smelled smoke and it was coming from the window switch harness! so, i disconnected it. The plastic harness that connects to the window switch is melted a little.LOL. Also, whenever the harness is plugged in to the switch, then the power window fuse in the fuse box gets really really hot too! Wtf? Could it be a bad switch? or a bad motor? Any help/advice is appreciated. Thanks 91

all of the connecting wires are still in the right spot inside the harness. The plug holes in the harness are just a little melted. Only the plastic. I thought it might be the switch, cause it looks like someone spilled something on it (it sticks).

Sounds like a bad switch.
If the fuse gets hot when the harness is unplugged from the switch, there's a short in the harness.
If the switch is getting hot without using it, it's shorting. Replace it.
If it gets hot when using it, replace the motor and don't forget to grease up the regulator assembly.

How about the fuse gets hot when the switch is connected to it's harness. The window is also real slow to go up and down. I was thinking that might indicate a bad window motor? Let me know what you think. Later

Does the fuse get hot when using the window, or does it start heating up as soom as you plug it in?
