Firebird Dash fitment for Camaros?
Simple question, Will it fit? I know the Camaro dashes have the lump/insert in the middle for the heater/ac. What other differences are there?
I have a chance at a amazing dash from a 91 Firebird and I am planning to buy and resell for a profit but started wondering if it can fit or be made to fit into my Camaro.
Thanks,
Carlos

no it will not fit, i made the mistake of buying one thinking it would fit, they look the same but the distance from the windshield to the leading edge of the dash is about 2 inches different, so dont wast your time

Nope, they're not even close. The depth is different and the mounting holes are in different places. Unfortunately, lots of people buy Firebird dashpads instead thinking they will work because they cost about half as much as a Camaro pad.

Are we talking about the dashpad or the hole dashboard? The dashpads are completely different, but the entire dashboard can and will fit into a camaro! Want pictures of a 88 digital dash from a GTA in a 85 Camaro? I do recamend if you install a firebird dash into a camaro that you also install the center console. For thew price of a good condition camaro dashpad you can buy all the firebird stuff. Your chioce, hope this helped

Dashpad, I picked it up for almost nothing well $5 from a 1991 firebird, Dash is completely perfect. I figured eh wonder what are the differences so I asked here before picking it up and found out too. Well either way a friend of mine is picking up a Firebird for himself soon, and most likely its pad is gone, so this will make a good present for him.

because in my personal experience firebird dash pads tend to resist cracking for some gay reason

Re: Firebird Dash fitment for Camaros?
Here's the deal... If you cut the top 2/3 of the Camaro dash side brackets off and do some hammering to bend the rest properly, the Bird dash fits just fine. How do I know? My 87 Bird's dash shell is currently in the IROC (trying to get it driveable before I go full-out on the 4th gen stuff). It's only a shell for now as I ran out of electrical tape rebuilding the harness (had cut some stuff out to keep for the 4th gen dash but had to put it back). Keep in mind that everything EXCEPT those side brackets is identical between the 2 cars. The Bird only has 2 lower corner brackets mounted about a 1/4" lower than the full-height Camaro brackets. As the guy said above, with modifications to the existing brackets, it WILL fit.
As to why? Personally, the big empty space on the passenger's side is bad enough on a Bird dash, which has that stinking dash pocket, but the Camaro has nothing there. And the Camaro also has that big wide open space under the center vents the Bird doesn't have, which also looks like crap, IMHO. For why I did it? As I said above, it's a go-between until I get the 4th gen parts, and the side brackets had to be modified anyways for the later dash, so why not? And I didn't have a dash for the 88, period. PO (not the guy I bought it from, the guy who has serious issues and stripped things here there and everywhere out of it) stripped it out except for the lower support bar, which is hanging in my garage.
Long story short, yes it does fit. But you need to cut the side brackets and bend them to make it work.
