02 trans am seats, dead lumbar/bolster pump?

Hey folks, here's a bit of a different one.
I've been searching through the search function and can't seem to find to much on the "seat cushion air control module" (the actual name). The lumbar and bolster pump basically.

Mine is all wired up (with the harness that runs across the tranny tunnel) and the driver power seat track works just fine. The passenger seat is manual.
However when you press any of the inflatable buttons on the driver or passenger seat the pump makes a single click noise but no air comes out of it.
Now I've heard of a fuse or a breaker but I can't seem to find one... and according to these diagrams found in this link
(https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...ire-6-pin.html), I don't see one anyways.
I dunno but do we think that it's dead?
Thanks for your help,
Charlie

Re: 02 trans am seats, dead lumbar/bolster pump?

Are you sure the pump is clicking. There are relays in the power lumbar harness. That may be where the clicking is coming from.

The power seat track has nothing to to with power lumbar. They are independent systems.Sometimes there is a fuse under the driver seat for the lumbar & a relay in the fusebox for the seat track.

Have you applied power to the pump directly.Thats one way to test it.The relays will click, regardless if the pump is faulty or not.If the relays are clicking that means your getting power in the harness, its just not going to the pump.It could be a bad connection.Either at the pump or relay. If neither side is working its probably a common issue.

Re: 02 trans am seats, dead lumbar/bolster pump?

Ya, I'm guessing that it's the relays clicking. But there is no air coming out of the pump.
Looking at the first wiring diagram some more I guess the relay/ solenoid is built into the pump.
I was just kinda hoping that there was something that I missed like a hidden fuse or relay pre-air pump box, that could be easily fixed.
I'll check all of the connections again for power and such and then post back.

The relays & solenoids are not intergrated to the airpump. There should be one solenoid for each seat & one relay for both seats. The solenoids have manifold that manages the air to the sides or center bladder.Id hook the pump straight to 12v & make sure its good.

If you mean this-Have you looked at your harness?Look for a blk box.
The top two, i think are in the solenoid box.

Re: 02 trans am seats, dead lumbar/bolster pump?

yeah that black box is under the passenger seat, but that box also has the air pump in it. I mean the hoses come out of it as well. It's all one sealed unit just as the wiring diagram shows. I suppose that I could try and take it apart, it's already messed up, I can't make it any worse! lol
I have a funny feeling that I'm going to have a tough time finding a used replacement.....

Re: 02 trans am seats, dead lumbar/bolster pump?

So I opened up the lumbar/ bolster pump bow only to find a lot of rust...
Seems the previous owner stored these seats in a lake or something...

All I did was remove the motor from the box (gently, so to not break the soldered power and ground wires) took the end off with the air hose coming out (three screws) and gave the end of the motor a spin, it was stuck but a little bit of pressure and she spun. Plugged it all back it and she works!
It does sound a little bit loud, so I'm hoping with a bit of use it'll calm down but at least I can spend a bit more time looking for a new part.
Thanks for all of your help 84 1LE, muchly appreciated.
