Installing headliner
Hey i just finished repairing and recovering my t-top headliner and went to install it yesterday, but got stuck getting the seatbelts in the slots. On the metal retractor device that bolts to roof there is a black plastic piece attached to it. I am wondering if this thing is supposed to go under or over the headliner? In other words, with the headliner installed and the cover piece removed that hides the hole and slit in the headliner , is there a black plastic piece visible? If nobody can understand what I am talking about then i will get some pictures.

Yes, that plastic piece that slides on the belt snaps into it when you're done, so don't worry too much. The main body of it (the black retractable piece) goes UNDER the headliner, but there is some of it JUST sticking out of the hole just a little when you're done. You have to make sure it's centered or it will keep knocking that plastic trim off of the roof by applying pressure to one side and popping the tabs out.
It will be visible as you hang the headliner. When you have it all buttoned up and as high as it will go, snap the plastic piece on your belt on it and clip into place to hide it. I got a replacement headliner made of ABS and it wouldn't work for me, broke my trim tabs once I popped it in because the ABS has no give compared to the stock paper stuff and the hole wasn't quite in the right spot (as ALL of the holes are on it)
Doing it over again I would have recovered as you're doing for fitment. Good luck getting it buttoned up.

Re: Installing headliner
The plastic trim covers the edge of the headliner and as stated above you have to snap in the plastic seat belt cover or it will keep popping out.

Thanks for the info and pics, Ive got the same problem as you Disturbed, I covered the whole headliner with an excessive amount of resin and now it is two stiff to get the black plastic peice through, I will give it another try after the fiberglass dries (cracked on the first attempt. Ill let you know how it goes.

Yeah, mine was already covered so I couldn't grind it down a bit or anything. I probably will recover it soon and modify the holes on it to fit better. Not having that piece of trim is annoying as hell, and really ugly to me. It's not easily noticed by most though. I hope you get it sorted out because it's nagged me since I did it about 5 years ago now.
