Wanting to do a dash swap in my 88 camaro, need some advice.

OK so don't flame me for asking. lol I've searched and searched all over and there is a tone of info but it's all over the place. So here is what I have. I have a stock 88 camaro rs 2.8. It's auto with overdrive So I can guess it's the 700r4 tranny. From what I read the speedo cable is cable drive. Right?

I'm wanting to do a 4th gen dash/cluster/console swap. So the questions are. What's the best dash/cluster/console for this year. I do know I will have to mod. Cluster wise, I want to be able to use all the guages and not have to put aftermarket in. Also will i need to get a dakota digital box for the speedo to get it to work right? I don't mind having to mod the center console for the auto tranny just need advice on the best combo. Thanks in advance.

Are you looking to replace the originals with something that has a higher speedo number that looks original for your dash??...are you wanting to just replace all of them, but don't want AutoMeter??

Search the sale threads for gauge clusters with the speedo // tach you like, & make sure it will work with all your senders // sensors.

You can get the gauge enclosure without gauges, & get what you want.
Try http://www.justdashes.com & see if they have something you're interested in.

IDK what years have cables & what yrs have electronc, so I'm no help there.

As far as speedo, there are kits that change cables to electronic. For that, you'll have to look for the speedo you want, & get the conversion kit that goes to with it IF it is an electronic type.
There are cable type speedos, it's a matter of what you want to do.
Maybe I don't undestand what you're asking..??.....Which is nothing new!!

( edit )
Hawks may have a gauge housing that intersets you, or try 1AAuto, Jegs, or Summit.

ok ive deiced on the 97-02 dash and cluster. What do I need for the speedo and tach? Would it better to go with the camaro console or firebird? and which one will go better with the auto shifter?

Sorry I probably wasn't too clear. I'm wanting to do a 4th gen dash/cluster/console swap in my 88. The question I had was which cluster was the easier to wire out of them and still have all guages work and which console year was the better fit with my auto shifter. I know mods will have to be done to the console but is the manual console the better way to go?

I've decieded on the 97-02 camaro dash and I think the 97 camaro cluster.

pick the dash that looks best to you, they all mount the same.
98-02 clusters need an LS1 because the pcm runs the gauges.
93-97 clusters will run on you senders. I have a 95 V6 firebird cluster if your interested.
97-02 camaro, 93-02 firebird clusters are all the same shape, size, and mount the same way. my 95 firebird dash has a 99 camaro LS1 cluster in it
93-96 camaro dashes and clusters must be used together as they are a completely different shape.
get 93-02 firebird console or 97-02 camaro console.
stay away from 93-96 camaro consoles im told they dont work to great
