i just bought myself a nice project, a 84 ta and noticed that it had a camaro center counsel. ive had a 85 86 88 89 and 92 and they all had a firebird (2 piece) center counsel. did 82 83 84 come with the camaro 1 piece counsel or is this just a rig? its m5 btw. thanks!

 

Early ones have what look like the Camaro one but IIRC it's different than either later model. You can tell by the shifter plate and glove box. Hinge is on the side IIRC. I always thought that style was only on the 82-83 models though.

Yes, you need an 82-84 center console with a 5 speed shifter plate. Those can be hard to find...

 

well im in the process of rebuilding the motor so i had to take it apart to drop the transmission. if i dont find a 4th gen ta counsel ill just use the same one. i dont hate how it looks but i like the firebird 2 piece better.

Yeah the '84 T/A had a one piece console. I did a 4th gen swap with mine about 8 months ago or so. 98-02 firebird console is a direct fit. I didn't have to cut anything or do any fab work at all. The bolt holes even line up. Crazy. You could maybe find 4th gen console's on ebay, but I wanted a brand new one because who knows what's been touching used ones. I got it from year one.

 

Yea I remember fitting one in my 86 a couple years back. I always find nice ones in the junkyads. I'll take a look this weekend.
