Seating Position

Hey all - been about in other cars recently and on returning to my firebird have really noticed the seating position isn't that great for me.

The pedals seem a bit far and the steering wheel a bit too close. To set the seat so I've got a good feel for the pedals the steering wheel is too close to my chest - I like my arms to be extended alittle. vice versa on setting the position with the wheel feeling right.

I'm a fairly normal (lol) guy just about 6ft and was firstly wondering if anybody else had issues with the seating position in these cars and how hey overcame it. I get the feeling GM designed these things for people with long legs and short arms!

Lastly anyone also feel the steering rake adjustment to have too much movement between each setting? I've got a setting where its too close to my knees, and the the next its like I'm driving a truck and peering over the wheel to se the gauges! These cars don't have reach adjustments for the wheel do they?

lol - sounds like a bit of a pointless thread but was just curious if others were in the same boat and if they did anything or just lived with it.

btw it's a '90 GTA with '02 WS6 seats

thanks

Re: Seating Position

Those aren't the stock seats.. i heard they sit lower than stock.. maybe that could be why?
I'm 5ft11inches and it's just perfect right above my knees and not too close steering wheel .. But then again I have a MOMO steering wheel which is smaller in diameter.

Re: Seating Position

My 1992 tilt wheel does the same - I think there is a missing stop at that tilt angle, probably because that was the position used for the last 19 years. But I've never tore into mine to see - there are threads about fixing/adjusting the tilt wheel, check those - It just never bothered me enough to go through the trouble myself.

If you have 02 seats, isn't the driver seat electric? I have 4th gen seats, and driver side is electric - an almost infinite range of adjustment (for me anyway). If yours is not, maybe scour the local yards for an electric seat, and yank the bottom off it for your seat.

Maybe your arms are just TOO long - did you spend too much time on the monkey bars as a kid?

Re: Seating Position

you got it camaronewbie - power seats - but offering nothing more in terms of adjustments then the standard GTA ones I had in there before (less in fact - have lost the leg support adjustment the GTA seats had)

Drove a C6 vette and the had my arms more or less fully straight at the 10 & 2 wheel position and the right foot-peddle distance- great driving position. Ditto my c-class estate and brothers' E46 BMW.

Just feels like the peddles could be nearer or the wheel further away on my bird - I can get a semi decent position by moving the base of the seat nearer and then adjusting the back support so I'm in a pimpin' position - lol - but it's just that - feel way too laid back

Interesting point about the wheel - I'll check if the setting above had the same adjustment between them - may be a tab for that sweet spot setting

lol - normally suffer from long sleeves when I'm buying off the rack suits so I don't think my arms are freakishly long or anything
