Few questions before i recover my seats....

I have a set of 86 custom buckets in my car because i like the upholstry pattern better, but the foam is shot! I have also, a set of perfect 89 custom buckets, but they are tan, but foam is perfect. My question is what's the difference, (or is there) a difference in the actual foam and seat between 86-87 and 88-92 seats or is it just the patterns they used? Because i would love to cover my 89 seats with 86-87 style reupholstry kit i found, (i do not like the way the 88-92 seats split up the two tones. I've compared them and I'm not seeing and difference other than the actual upholstry...

Can anyone clear this up?

I think they are the same, but I can't say for sure.

When I recovered mine, I bought a 2 1/2 yard roll of 1/2" high density foam from Jo-Ann's and some LocTite spray adhesive, and added the foam to my existing seats. 2 1/2 yards was enough to add to every panel except the back above the lumbar area. They looked like this before I put the covers on them...

Re: Few questions before i recover my seats....

Is there anyway i could find out this information between the seats? Because i doubt gm would change the inner foam, i feel like they just changed the outer covering of the seats...

Re: Few questions before i recover my seats....

I'd buy a hog ring pliers, some rings, and pull the covers off of one of each of them and compare it side by side. Only way to really be sure. Then you can put the cover back on the one in your car (or just leave it out of the car and wait for the new covers).

You could try to measure the seats to compare outer dimensions and then feel for the metal rods that hold the covers tight in the creases to see if they are the same length and in the same places, but trying to feel those rods with the covers on is pretty difficult..
