Rear speakers not 6x9s?

I took my covers off for the first time and noticed I do not have 6*9s.

Instead I have 2 speakers per side?

Was that a special option?

Yes, that was part of the factory subwoofer option available on Firebirds. The 6x9 rear speakers were replaced with a box with a 4x6 inch speaker and a small round subwoofer. You should also have an on/off switch with "gain" control on the dash.

Is the factory sub option rare now a days? I was wondering what the gain control does. Is it a direct swap to change to the 6x9 mounting?

Yes, it was a fairly rare option but nothing that is really desirable now. The surrounds on the subs are usually shot. You can take the boxes out and put 6x9's in their place but you'll need the 6x9 mounting plates. We have them available on our site if you're interested. (Here's a link.)

If your interested in getting rid of them I'll buy em from ya. You should also have speakers in your kick panels too, which i'd also be interested in buying. If you sell the stuff to me I'll give my 6x9 speakers plates too. Send me a PM if your interested.

He won't have any speakers in his kick panels. That was part of the Bose system found in Camaros. The Firebird factory sub system is a completely different setup.

Whoops my bad. I thought they where the same. Don't mean to jack the thread but what did firebird sub-system come with. Just the subs and 4x6's?

Yes, the fronts have the normal 4x6 dash speakers. The 6x9's were replaced with a box with 4x6's and small subs.
