86 camaro defogger?

My 86 has grid lines at the very top of my hatch, near the third brake light and i have wires running to my hatch, near the shocks. my question is, does my car have a defogger or defroster? if so how to i turn it on?!?! im having problems with my rear glass fogging up so bad that i cant see out of it!

Re: 86 camaro defogger?

The defroster wires run across most of the rear hatch of my 85, not just at the top. The factory switch for the rear defrost is on a little panel just below the cigarette lighter. The switch has a little orange light that comes on when the defroster is on and a timer built into it shuts it off after about 10 minutes.

Re: 86 camaro defogger?

It sounds unusual to me. Someone may have swapped the rear hatch if none of the wiring or switch are there. If you don't have the switch then it most likely didn't come with a rear defroster. One way to double check is to look under the drivers side door sill or under the carpet behind or in front of it for a large purple wire.

For the time being you can try Rain-X Fog on the inside of the glass.

"Defogger" and "defroster" are the same thing.

Re: 86 camaro defogger?

If you live in a cold climate, it'll be called a defroster. If you live in a humid one, it's a defogger. It's the same thing either way.

Kind of like the way up north it's "antifreeze" but in the south it's "coolant".

There are lines at the top of the glass, but the defogger/defroster grid, which is red, doesn't start until well below the top of the glass, say, 8 or 9 inches, then proceeds another foot and half or so.

Re: 86 camaro defogger?

Take a pic of what you have. Like I said it sounds unusual so this would save a lot of guessing.

Re: 86 camaro defogger?

Well, put it this way: It has nothing to do with the defroster/defogger. If the car has no switch and no red grid, it's not equipped with the d/d.
